Sega Logistics Service has unveiled a new PS2 controller designed to resemble the original Neo Geo controller. This division of Sega, which previously released a version of the Sega Saturn d-pad (considered by many to be the finest d-pad ever made) for the PC, has been working with SNK Playmore and Exar on the development of the controller as part of the King of Fighters ten year anniversary.

The controller mimics the Neo Geo controller right down to the layout of the buttons. It weights 1.2kg and has dimensions 280mm(W) X 195mm (D) X 85mm (H). Plus, it just looks like the original, as you can see here:

There's one difference, though. The controller had to be equipped with four extra face buttons in order to match the specifications of Sony's stock PS2 controller.

Sega Logistics Service will offer this PS2 and PSOne compatible controller to Japan starting 2/17/2005. Pricing is set at 5,800 yen. Full retail distribution will take place, so you can probably expect to find it via your favorite import shop.

And we all thought that the Nintendo and Sega logos on the same screen were strange. Now we have Sega, Neo-Geo, and Sony all describing the same product.

Ahhhh Neo-Geo, my unicorn. This was the one system i could just never get together the coin to buy. Guess buying the joystick for my PS2 will be the closest i'll ever get :lol

If I didn't already have two of those, and if the four button layout wasn't completely unusable for Street Fighter 3, I would get one. Also, it weighs a lot more than the originals, they are really light.

It's still the best looking controller ever though.

Ha. Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I've always wanted a Neo Geo, but they were too damn expensive. Can't wait to pick this up.

Thats exactly what I was thinkng I used to drool at pictures of it in old Egm's and to a lesser degree Gamepro's. This thing is mine........

why is *Sega* releasing it? Sega had nothing to do with the NeoGeo home systems, except the NGPC><Dreamcast link thingy.

Well SEGA still probably has a hardware unit from the console days that are bored so now they make controllers or something :D BTW this controller looks awesome I need one!

Then there's that whole "they are a part of Sammy and SNK develops games for their Atomiswave boards" thing

oh ok I see.

ok my next question is, is this really the same joystick that's been around since 1990, just adapted for PS2 ?

I'd hit it !

But I won't know which Arcade controller use with my PC now, between this one, the Saturn one and the DC one :/

PS2-to-USB + MAME + That Controller = HUGE Boner!!!!!
For MAME use, an X-Arcade solo is going to be a lot better than that, and it isn't even the highest quality choice.

When you use MAME, you are emulating arcade games, and the SNK arcade cabs did not use the the hardware pictured above. Techically I doubt they ever used Happ-style stuff either but an X'd still be closer.

Ryck and Heavy Liquid, our Neo-Geo lust definitely shows we're not in our wee teens anymore lol.

Heh, no doubt. I would've killed for a Neo Geo back in the early nineties. I'd hang out and drool at a local AV/Laserdisc place while playing Nam 1975 and Samurai Shodown.

Wasn't Sega going to release a Saturn pad for the PS2? I recall reading about that here a while back.

I don't remember this. Are you talking about this one?

After the USB Saturn pad came out for the pc earlier this year I saw a post here about a version of the pad for the ps2.

This right here is the BEST FUCKING STICK IN THE UNIVERSE, I own two of them
Yeah, I mean, it's versatile I'll give ya that, and if you dig ball tops I wouldn't be suprised if that was real Sanwa in there....

But what is that button layout? So spastic. This must be the precursor to that Xbox stick. I dunno, I like to keep it a little more conservative, only have the buttons that I need. You're also gonna need adaptors to move off the Saturn...

At least they colored the VF buttons.

No, MAME emulates arcade hardware, which in the case of the Neogeo is the SAME FUCKING THING as the console system. You only change a BIOS setting.

Semantics. I merely found it amusing that the controller designed for the console would be considered perfect in the emulation of the arcade experience. Arcade stick humor, don't worry about it.

Yes, I know it's the exact same data, I mighta booted up Kawaks once or twice.

No, THIS is the best stick in the universe. And no need to own two, one gets the job done just fine :D .

Seems that my pic is not well liked around here so here is the link: Virtua Stick Pro

I must say that the PS2 Neo controller looks great though.

Looking at the Neo Geo controller with the Neo Geo, SNK, and PlayStation logos the one thing that popped into my head was "WELCOME TO THE ONE CONSOLE FUTURE"
