Sell me a 360

The End

Member
Due to a recent bit of personal misfortune, I've found myself with quite a bit of disposable income. Now, you may know me as a a bit of a Sony fanboy, but MS is doing a lot of things right, and I'm interested. On top of this, I have an "in" with the electronics guy at the K-mart in my neighborhood, so I'm virtually guaranteed a system if I get there early.

I am, however, uncertain as to whether the 360 will be worth picking up on day one, as some things are still uncertain.

1) Out of the launch lineup, which are the best bets? I'm inclined to choose PDZ and PGR3, simply because MGS will throw a veritable shit-ton of support (DLC, patches, etc) at these titles. Is anything flying under my radar? Are Condemned and Full Auto going to turn out unexpectedly awesome?

2) What is the ETA for Ninety Nine Nights? Mass Effect? The Mistwalker titles? I know Oblivion has been pushed back to the Spring, which is a shame, because that would've sold it to me Guaranteed.

3) When are we going to know about BC? I no longer have an Xbox, and there are some very specific games I'm looking to play again (Phantom Dust, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Dai Senryu 8, Jet Set Radio Future, Psychonauts), and having a comprehensive list before launch would be nice.

Best launch bets:

1) PGR3
2) Condemned
3) NBA 2k6
4) Kameo
5) Call of Duty 2

No idea when those games you named are coming.

BC info should be soon, I'm sure. Otherwise, we'll just try it out and let you know. :p

Just buy it. Ya, that's right.

Don't.

Just wait.

Study the impressions of your fellow gaffots and the press, then do another brainstorm.

Oh christ.

What's up with all people nowadays asking GAFfers to decide for them?

GAF: Home of the unbiased opinion, with bonus logical advice.

PS: If you have Windows Media Center, you can't not get a 360.

PPS: You probably don't have Windows Media Center.

Can't you just download WMC?

Nope. Pre-installed on computers, and it's not available separately. I'm waiting for Vista (which will have it), though.

I would be trivial for me to get a copy (not Yarrrr, MSDN)

The Fable 2 talk in the other thread has me excited.

I'm really curious as to whether the talk about "even supply" is true, because if I can walk into Wal-mart in February after N3 drops, that might be better.

Wait, what is it you need to stream music and images to the Xbox 360? I thought you could do it from XP.

XP is fine for music and images. For video and some other shit, you need MCE.

Sweetness. Don't care about video anyhow. I have my TiVo and DVD - that's good enough for me (and more reliable than a media center PC).

Just get it, Oktober. You know you want it. To be ahead of the curve. Yeah! Then you can participate in all the interesting launch hyperbole, and tell me whether or not I'm missing out on all the fun by being a poor asshole.

I say go with Perfect Dark Zero, but I already told you that. That game is gonna pay for itself 80 times over in multiplayer content alone, you just know it.

At this point, my thinking is "get up early, go to K-mart, see if I can get one". If I'm not in love with it, I can always trade it in for a PS3 pre-order when the time comes.

tubgirl, or whatever the damned MS invented L337 level designers name is, may (or may not) toss you off if you download her level!

.... *probably some big fat guy called Bill.

tubgirl is NOT the good word for this, DCharlie!

You can in fact buy it as OEM. You have to make sure your PC is up to spec AND buy a separate media center remote.

Look around, you'll find it.

True, it can be found separately. It's supposed to be sold "with either a fully assembled computer system or a nonperipheral computer hardware component", which is why all of the places I've seen it available get around this by also throwing in a $10 power cord or something.

Only if you reserved it in May, have it paid off, and have at least 1 game and 1 accessory reserved for pickup.

Again, I could walk across the street at 6am on 11/22 and buy one. It won't be hard.

EBGamestop is already preordered out, and people are saying the shipment is much lower than originally expected.

But good luck with that "I'll find one on launch day by just walking into a store." thing. I'm sure that will work out.

From a hype standpoint, this is well below even the PSP launch. The difference being that there are far fewer 360s in circulation than the million or so PSP's shipped initially.

Even still, I don't think I'll have a problem walking into K-Mart, Wal-mart, Target etc. an the 22nd and picking one up.

Follow my logic here.

K-mart is not taking pre-orders

K-mart will be getting ~20 units

K-mart is in a neighborhood where it would not be wise to camp out overnight

K-mart is located across the street from my building, so I can see if people are starting to line up.

Reminder - This thing'll cost ~$400.

They're not going to sell out *that* quickly.

I've also come to the conclusion that I'm a retard, and will be getting the retard pack. The all white bezel looks better to me.

Well there seem to be more games slated for launch than with the PSP. 20+ compared to about 17. (and no, there weren't 24 PSP launch games like Sony originally planned)

Well good luck I guess. I honestly hope you get yours. ;)

And if we don't...we'll live. They'll make more.

Trust me.

Hahah @ people in this thread trying to make Okt and DaCoco nervous that they won't get one

Sound like EB reps

"Trust me, you'll never get one."

*Walks into Ames in the morning and picks up a PS2, leaves and enjoys Ridge Racer*

Shit, I forgot about Ridge Racer.

Teh Dilemma!

R4 and Ridge Racers are two of my favorite racing games of all time, but PGR3 will be teh sex.

WHAT TO DO!
