Selling old Nintendo Powers on EBay - A worthwhile venture?

My brother is in the process of going through a couple of huge boxes of old Nintendo Power magazines. While there is every option to just toss them into the recycling, it would be nice to get something out of them.

Is there a market for these incredibly biased magazines? Being in Canada might prove difficult in finding someone to ship the things to, but I simply wonder if it would be even worth the trouble to try to sell them. Has anyone tried selling similar video game magazines on the web before? Any advice would be spectacular.

Thanks.

Someone will buy 'em. Obviously, don't expect a fortune, but you'll likely get at least 50 bucks out of it and it's good of people to keep old game mags in circulation instead of tossing them.

Depends on how old they are. NES-era or maybe early SNES would probably be worth something (especially complete runs). Anything more recent than that, probably not. Ship it media mail and definitely make the buyer eat the shipping cost because that will be big.

And yes, there is a market for old video game magazines. I have bought and sold quite a few different titles on eBay including VG&CE, EGM, Nintendo Power, Game Players, and lots of home computer mags from the 80s (Antic, ANALOG, Atari Explorer, Compute!, Computer Shopper, Byte, etc.)

There is definitely a market out there, but mostly for the older (80s to early 90s) mags.

If anyone has any pre-NES video game (not computer, like Byte or Antic) mags to sell, I'll gladly buy 'em.

You should note, though, that there are far more Nintendo Powers on ebay than pretty much any other video-game magazine, which drives down prices a fair bit. I guess every kid in America kept all of theirs.

I'm also looking for magazines, by the way... I need to fill holes in my collections of Electronic Games (the 90s one) and the assorted Game Player's runs. PM meeee

I've gone through the first box and a half or so...And it appears that it goes from about 13 to 140/150 with only a couple of breaks here or there.

Looking at EBay, there appears to be a whole lot of people trying to sell off individual magazines, and the only one with any bids whatsoever has the entire first 55 issues in "Mint" Condition.

This isn't an attempt to gain a fortune...it's an attempt to gain anything, really. A few questions, though...

- Is it better to just not even bother with the newer issues, which would likely increase shipping costs, or have one gigantic collection?
- While there is general wear on most of them, some have covers falling off. Is it better to tape them, throw them out or simply sell them as is?

There's only the Nintendo Powers there...some strategy guides and the like as well (NP Subscriber ones). I'll finish the cataloguing, see what I can do with them. Thanks for the help.

As for the issue of covers falling off, I'd leave them as is, unless doing so will have them end up ripped much worse due to jostling throughout the continent. Probably anyone buying these is wanting to beef up a collection of sorts, and will have their own preferences on how to deal with such things.

So true. With a few cubic feet you can have thousands of pages of nostalgia.

Maybe I should bother selling some of these off. I've got Jan 1992 through December 2002, I believe. The only cover that's really beaten to shit is the Jan '92 cover itself...Super Castlevania IV.

What a terrible magazine. I kept it out of habit from 1997 onwards, mostly because for $30 CDN I was getting a $20 players guide for free, and I was going to buy the guide anyway separately.

I had every single Next Generation magazine from the first issue all the way to about mid-2001. About half were from a subscription and had mailing labels on them, the other half were bought monthly at the newsstand. I hadn't touched them in years, and I move so frequently that it was becoming a huge pain in the ass to lug around several heavy boxes full of them, so decided to get rid of them. I posted a few messages around the web looking for people who might be interested in them, but received absolutely no response. I wasn't even looking to make money off it, just looking for somebody who might give them a home.

I wound up tossing them all out in the recycling bin before I moved last year. I did keep the first two issues and the Nov. 1995 one with the cool Sarah Bryant VF2 cover and Yu Suzuki interview.

i was an obsessed little nintendo fanboy back in the day :lol :lol

Sorry to bump this old post, but it's been three and a half months and they're still sitting on my bedroom floor. My family, despite not having to live in the room, are getting annoyed with this, so they want me to get rid of them.

I'm more or less considering grabbing the old Strategy Guides (NES/Super NES, Final Fantasy, etc.), Issues 13-50 and maybe some of the January Bonus Issues and offering them only, and throwing out the rest. It would reduce shipping costs, get rid of a lot of the magazines now (Allowing my family to deal with the selling part) and just make the whole thing a little easier.

Good idea? Bad Idea? From the current auctions on EBay, only older ones sell anyways, so I doubt adding 100 magazines (And a whole lot more shipping cost) would help it much.

Dude, I have every Nintendo Power magazine & players guide from volume 27 on. I *want* every issue before 27 in order to complete the "set" so help a brotha out!

Find out how many magazines you can fit into a $7.70 USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Box. The dimensions are 11" x 8.5" x 5.5" and 13.625" x 11.875" x 3.375". Basing your auctions around that amount will make your life tremendously easier.

I've got 13, and then 15-26 sitting up there, but there's some damage to most, including a couple of no-covers.

Edit: 26 has no cover, some have rips and tears, but most of the strategy guides are in really good shape (Their tougher exteriors worked quite well). If you wanted a shipping estimate, let me know what state/province you live in.

I'll check Canada Post, but am guessing that the boxes might me similar in size.

Edit: I got the following from the good people at Canada Post for an estimated weight/box size.

U.S.A. Expedited Parcel (8 business days)
Base Price: $24.60
Fuel Surcharge: $1.29
Delivery Confirmation : Included
Total: $25.89 (CDN) = $20 USD.

As a guy who months ago posted a crying image about throwing out mags, what harm could it do to offer the rest as a separate bundle? As long as it goes for a few bucks over the shipping, that should make up for the slight extra hassle of not just tossing them.

I'm kind of going to have to dump them on my family to sell, because I'm off for University, so I was trying to simplify it as much as possible for them. If it appears too time-consuming or confusing, I can see them all ending up in the trash.

I have NP issues 1-32, then scattered issues throughout the SNES era from there. I'm in no need to get rid of them, though. I still like going back and reading them from time to time
