All I want to do is capture stills from my DVDs. Why on Earth is this feature so impossible to find? I've been trying all kinds of different software all day and fucking nothing accomplishes this simple task.

Does anyone know anything that will simply grab a shot from a DVD?

Intervideo WinDVD does it, I take screens all the time using it. but the easiest way it so disable hardware acceleration like goodcow said.

Just disable hardware acceleration, and then hit print screen.
Hmm, I had tried that, but I now I go looking again and there's fucking two different options for disabling it. I have no idea what the difference is, but the Advanced one worked. I feel stupid.

I've only got a shitty Dell version of PowerDVD, but I'll also try out Media Player Classic.

Anyway, thanks guys.

I've been looking for an excuse to post this screencap of Debbie Harry putting out a cigarette on her boob.

I wish I could post the one of James Woods's stomach-vagina.

Mother fucker.

That only worked for files I had. It still won't grab from a DVD. Why the fuck do they make it so goddamned hard to capture a fucking still from video? What is the harm?

I use Intervideo WinDVD and it works fairly well. Here are a few of my favorite grabs so you can get an idea of the quality (which also depends on the DVD and quality of the film stock/technology):
