Tackling MS is a huge problem and its root causes are largely economic. Thing is, because of the gang's extortion activities, fixing these economic problems is next to impossible.
And no, labelling them and 18 as terrorist organisations isn't the answer. These aren't terrorists. They have no ideology. They're bandits, running wild in poor countries that simply aren't equipped to deal with them.
I know several people who joined MS from my home village in El Salvador. If there were jobs and good prospects for these kids, there wouldn't be nearly as much drive to join.
