Spiders don't bite unless provoked. Here's a video of a guy putting a black widow and a brown recluse on his hand at the same time.

Also, it almost certainly wasn't deadly.

A lot of tarantulas aren't really aggressive. Just don't provoke them and you'll be fine. I remember my 7th grade science teacher had on in the classroom, a bunch of us would take it out and let it crawl on our arms. A bunch of others would stay the hell away though, lol.
