Good stuffs, so most sane devs will just update.

Makes the sting of paid for upgrades a little less painful. I thought Nintendo was gonna fleece on every patches.

Those games struggle to hit their intended targets.

yes, but that wouldn't be an issue on Switch 2 even without a patch. any game that doesn't hit it's target reliably will very likely be completely locked on Switch 2.

the hardware is at least 4x to 5x as powerful as the Switch 1

As far as I can see, the Zelda BOTW and TOTK upgrades are more than just performance and resolution bumps, they're adding new features (that I don't really care about, except for sharing your TOTK creations with other players, that looks nice) and are also going to be "free" with NSO sub.

From the list, I was waiting for the Switch 2 to finally play these:
  • The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
  • The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
And also am happy about ARMS getting an upgrade, I've been holding on that game for too long already and really want to try it.

Now... WHERE'S XENOBLADE 3 UPGRADE, NINTENDO? WHERE?!

Nice! Now just hoping for more announcements like Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity and 3rd parties that will do the same esp for Batman Arkham Knight

Thinking performance and DRS games will benefit from new hardware is logical, but I'll never assume.

this is just so they work on S2 and don't work worse. And can be used with the new S2 features. Or so it seems.

From the Direct i got the impression Kirby would get an upgrade.

I wonder about Legends Arceus…

it's impossible that they don't. the software side shenanigans that would be needed to make that happen is insane.

the easiest way for Nintendo to implement backwards compatibility is to give the games the full GPU and CPU

[*]Pokemon Scarlet
[*]Pokemon Violet

Yeah...I don't think Switch 2 can do miracles for those games. Its not about FPS, the game is freaking ugly with terrible textures and awfull art design.

Yeah, I don't they'll look much better. But still, a locked 30fps would be a huge improvement over the Switch 1 (sadly).

We'll see and like I said, your thoughts are logical. If Age of Calamity isn't an enhanced title, it will be a good test to see performance gains.

check those outsized expectations at the door.

I think Doom and other 3rd party games will a good test too. or just running the Zelda games unpatched, all of them. BotW and TotK also drop to 20fps regularly. you can basically trigger 20fps drops on TotK by using the hand

I've been holding off on finishing Xenoblade 2 and starting 3, with hopes that there would be better resolution/ performance.

This is nice to hear, but makes everything feel more complicated than it needs to be.

Hoping Zelda: Link's Awakening gets free upgrade to performance, because I do want to play that at some point. Same with the Xenoblade games.

Are these updates for playability or updates with support for more advanced graphics?

"free updates that may improve performance"

Its gonna be dev/patch dependent.

I doubt we'll see like graphic improvements with texturing or geometry, I expect maybe FPS unlocks or higher resolution mode and that's it. But again, seems to be 100% dev's decision.

I really hope this rolls out for more games, especially Bayo 2/3, Astral Chain, Xeno games. But I suspect most devs won't bother.

At least some games that I have will get free update. I was getting pretty upset with TOTK and BOTW paid upgrade.

Astral Chain and Hyrule Warrior Age of Calamity would have benefited from some framerate and resolution boost.

Bayonetta 3 has a dynamic resolution and very unstable framerate.
even without a patch it will be a significant upgrade when played on Switch 2

My backlog is massive so I guess I'll hold off on several to see if they get performance updates. I know Link's Awakening struggled. If they can get that to 60fps, that'd be great.
