Davies is great, though getting their in your own car can be problematic. I usually take BART, MUNI, or a cab.

My girlfriend and I have to make a stop at Kinokuniya in SF before heading to a birthday party tonight--any recommendations for a place to get dinner in or around Japantown? I'd rather the place isn't particularly expensive (no more than 10-ish per person).
 
I've been pimping super duper to everyone, this place has some damn nice burgers. Some of the best tasting meat I've had on a burger, but they are also VERY greasy. Yeah, I know, it's a burger. Grease is expected. But it's a bit much. I've eaten there about 4 times and they seem to get greasier with each trip :P

Garlic fries are very good but unless you're a competitive eater I'd suggest splitting them with a friend. It's hard for me to eat a burger, shake *and* the fries (I manage but I kinda regret it after). Unless you are feeling extra spendy I recommend skipping their trio of special sauces (which they charge extra for) -- the ketchup is just fine with me. There's no wrong choice with the shakes. I've tried 2 or 3 different ones

Don't pass on the free pickles (and garlic) at the condiment station. They are incredible. There's usually two big jugs full of them and I've never seen a restaurant give out free pickles like these. You'll fall in love.

You can get a double burger with cheese (cheese and/or bacon is extra, other toppings, such as grilled onions, are free), shake and garlic fries for just under $17. The quality is up there though, you won't regret it.

When I go, I usually hit up the newish one on Mission right next to the new Target at 4th & Mission. The one on Market seems to get more crowded, but they are both busy.

Sorry I didn't see this, but if you were in Japantown I would've recommened Suzu Noodle House for some excellent ramen.
 
I really want to get involved with a GAF meetup before I go back to my normal GAFfer-less wasteland in a couple of months.

Any chance of getting a GAF meet-up next week-end maybe?
 
I too would be interested in a gaf meetup. If we did it in japantown we'd have to go to pika pika for a crazy picture set! But first we should probably drink sake bombs!

I don't know what everyone would be up to doing, and where we'd meet up. But suggestions would be a good place to start.
 
If you guys are meeting up in Japantown, I suggest YakiniQ. All you can eat Korean BBQ. Including as much fat slices of pork belly as you want.
 
i'm down for a meetup. in sf is best/easiest for my car-less ass but anywhere is cool provided there's good logistics

I'm not around this weekend, but it's probably best to just suggest something (location & time) and go for it. I found that if everyone just keeps on asking people when they want to do it, we rarely get enough momentum to put something together.

I only really know Mountain View just a little bit, but there are a few even I know, all on Castro Street. (I feel safe in assuming you mean bars :p)

Molly Magee's is really bad, loud dance club somehow that's also Irish themed. It's pretty popular too, for some reason.

191 and St. Stephen's Green are more standard bars/restaurants that would be decent bets, too.

But then again, I have no idea.
 
Hey guys. Moving out there in July/August. Will be working in Sunnyvale but want to live closer to SF (at least in between). We have friends in Foster City, how is traffic from Foster City, Redwood City/Shores area down to Sunnyvale? My office is a bit over a mile from the caltrain stop in Sunnyvale and I wouldn't mind using the train all the time.

Any other locations to look at? Looking at staying around/under 3000 for rent (2 bed/2 bath). Do I need to worry about a place with an air conditioner?

I have a few co-workers that drive down from Foster City/Redwood City to Santa Clara (basically on the border of Sunnyvale) and it takes them about 15 minutes no traffic or 45 minutes to 1 hour with traffic on Hwy 101.

You do not need to worry about A/C especially in the Peninsula area. Hardly need to worry about A/C at all if you're in the Bay Area.

Thanks, I'm hoping I can use the train most of the time. I've been out there a few times and have done the drive but never at rush hour.

I didn't think so about the a/c, assume any warm days are easily accommodated by windows open and a fan. God I can't wait to get out of here

Getting to the caltrain from any of those cities is usually a breeze. But to drive to SV it all depends on how temperamental 101 is. If the company your working for is large enough you might be able to use bauers or get a discounted caltrain pass.

So I'm going to SF monday night for the Gamestop Bioshock Infinite event. Its going to be held near Union Square. I'm looking for some good places to grub as I'll be in the city most of the day. I heard someone mention Super Duper Burgers was pretty good?
 
Super Duper is okay, but if you're in the city early Little Griddle near Civic Center has good burgers. I think they close at like 3pm though. Katana-ya Ramen is open until like 1am if you want to eat later. Westfield for mall food and tons of chains around that area.

And totally forgot about Bioshock. Might stop by and grab it depending on how tired i am that night.

Pearls Burgers is pretty good too, theres one on post/jones.

I'll check out the Union Square Bioshock thing, I live pretty close to that.

What's the job scene like over there? I'm graduating in May from Michigan State with a BA in Accounting and an IT Specialization. I want to work in tech, but don't feel qualified enough yet. The IT Specialization exposed me to some Intro to CS stuff and Python, but I want to self teach for a few months before I feel comfortable applying to entry level positions. Ideally I could do some type of iOS or Android Bootcamp class, which I hear is becoming kind of popular out there.

I'm 22 and single so don't need much to get by. I feel like I need to be near Silicon Valley to get the most out of the tech industry, and there's no better time to try it than when I'm young and not tied down by family. I just don't want to move out there and not be able to have some type of income. Any opinions or think it'd be better to wait until I have a job secured? I'm just ready to get out of Michigan, and there are better opportunities to learn (Bootcamps) out there. It's obviously not ideal to be across the country with no money, though. This decision has been keeping me up at night... especially since I graduate in a month and my current lease is up in August. Have to figure something out! Thanks for any insight :D

Silicon Valley is kind of thriving again since last year. Lots of money and investors putting money into new companies. Lots of tech obviously, with little experience it might get a little tough because of the diversity and talent out here in the Bay Area. It's quite common that Silicon Valley workers end up working or cross paths again, so a lot of familiar faces everywhere you go.

But be warned even with a higher than average salary out here, the high cost of living is pretty ridiculous than most parts of the country.

I went to that, it was fun. Got autographs, was drinking tons of energy drinks, won a gift card & ended up getting Chris laser etched onto my DS (correct side up so when the lid's up, he's standing up).

Would love to go to another event like that again.
