ShaqFu is a pretty good fighter!

Even though it doesn't control like Street Fighter(blazing fast), it's still a pretty good 2D fighter. Not only that, the enviornments/fighters are pretty interesting and detailed. I'm talking about the Genesis version BTW.

If this was a lesser board, 12 members would've posted the following reply in a nanosecond: NB4DALAWK!!!. But since it's above that, I'm just gonna say that this thread's hilarious. Besides reminding me what a tool Shaq was in the mid 90s, nothing positive has ever come from that game.

It isn't as bad as the people who've never played it would have you believe. When there are things like Ballz out there, why would people spend their time making fun of Shaq Fu?

What percentage of Ballz is dominated by a real life NBA playa who sometimes goes by the nickname "Shaq Attaq"? Once you've finished your calculations, and arrived at the correct answer of 0, come back here and make the same statement again. I dare you.

Yeah, remember the Pepsi Slam? I think it was just a big bottle of Pepsi but not too big so you could still drink it all. I remember the commercial they played 10 times an hour where the kid whipsers.. "Shaq Attack!"

Sadly I do remember that. Even sadder, I remember the movie Kazaam ... it's Shaq...as a GENIE! Hell, it'd be a crime against humanity if we didn't make this movie.

There are certain games that everybody likes to dump on that aren't as bad as some would have you believe.

Shaq-Fu is probably not the worst fighter ever or even the worst of the 16-bit era.

another example is Turok:Evolution. I can't vouch for the PS2 version, but the Xbox and GC versions are not that bad. Some would have you believe that it's the worst excrement to ever exit the rear of the industry but that's a gross misconception. Killzone on PS2 and Unreal II on Xbox are both far-worse FPS than Turok: Evo.

It still isn't horrible.

PRECISELY.

I liked the game, it had some pretty interesting characters and compared to most of the real shit that was on shelves I thought it was pretty good. I remember we had quite a bit of fun with that game back in the day.

I have played Batman games that are worse than Shaq Fu.

This thread reminded me of how hard it was to return cartridges back to rental places.

Me: "I'm returning Shaq Fu. It .. uhh .. didn't work"
(clerk plugs it into house system)
Clerk:"Works here."
Me:"Uhh... I must've picked up the wrong game on accident ... can I just grab (looks at game next to it) Shinobi like I wanted to?"
Clerk:"Yeah right ..."

Returning crappy games was such an awkward experience back then. It seems easier now since disks have come out. "CD is scratched, its unplayable on my system".

The graphics and stuff were okay in Shaq Fu. The big problem with it was that it used long motion caputre animations for the moves that weren't interruptable enough, so half the time you were playing you were just watching a move unfold. It felt like you were disconnected from the action in the way you do in many bad 3d fighters.

ShaqFu still rates as one of the more amusing titles for a game, for mine. :lol

We need to organise a GAF NBA player-endorsed game shootout!

ShaqFu vs Jordan Windy City vs Barkley Shut Up and Jam vs David Robinson Supreme Court Basketball vs Jordan vs Bird vs what else?

Have to say, I didn't mind Barkley SUAJ at all....

Yeah.

And Superman 64 is an impressive flight simulator.

I agree that Shaq Fu gets an unfair rep from those who haven't played it. I own it, and it's not a good fighter. But it's not in the top 100 worst games ever made, either like some would have you believe. I'd say the game's about as good as any other EA game made these days.

Blasphemy!

I haven't played this game in ages, and I didn't play it much when it was new, but as I recall the controls were terrible and unresponsive. It's looked back on more as a joke then anything else now.

The only thing good about Shaq Fu is what happened on the message boards for the game on all platforms at Gamefaqs. Check them out. :)

Delphine software, WHAT HAPPENED? You make great games like Flashback, then move on to crap like Shaq-Fu?

Delphine is gone now, right?

Someone must've driven up with a Pepsi truck full of Francs.
