But when I finished the first and second Shenmue I was awestruck. The story and presentation are awesome, and the even the gameplay at times showed makrs of brilliance.

Shenmue is a game that this board will never agree on. Its like abortion, an issue that just splits the community right down the middle. I loved the first game on the Dreamcast, so you know where I stand. Every night before bed I pray that Sega will announce a Shenmue 1 & 2 bundle pack for the PS2 and Xbox, with an MSRP of $29.99. And then Shenmue 3 is announced for the XBox 360 and PlayStation 3. But it never fucking happens.

To be perfectly honest, I can see why some people hated Shenmue. I'm not even going to pretend that its a game everyone can enjoy.

I forget, did you actually complete Shenmue? I dont see whats shallow about the combat at all, unless you think VF is shallow too. 70 man battle is still my favorite 3d fighter sequence of all time, i wish Spikeout was as deep as Shenmue in this reguard.
