Shenmue III Enhanced Announced

Not even "didn't finish Shenmue", he really didn't even advance the plot at all in 3. You could remove the story from 3 and pick up wherever he starts 4 and all you would need is a handful of lines of text to catch everyone up. As a Kickstarter backer of Shenmue 3, I consider it my biggest gaming mistake of all time.

I think the thing that would have made it better is if they decided to fill in a bunch of missing information. Establish the Chi-you-men more with this entry rather than a brief reveal of yet another villain who was only seen in a handful of concept arts. I feel if they dove into this plot more it would have been a better in terms of pacing. Hell, even getting to land a hit on Lan-di in that last fight would have been much better than the abrupt ending we got. It would have shown that Ryo has been growing in his martial arts. But we got literally nothing except a "Next time on DragonBall Z Shenmue!"

Weird that they're just saying "Nintendo" when the Switch 2 has been out for months. Maybe Nintendo really does have some kind of embargo on new announcements for the system.

Any chance they bring Shenmue 1&2 to Switch 2? I'd honestly rather have that than this.

Sometimes I wish Yu Suzuki had the same support in the industry and financial backing that Kojima has.

I strongly agree. A universe where Sega elevated Suzuki as their Miyamoto and treated him with deference and respect instead of basically burning him out and throwing him away is universe where gaming is far richer and more interesting than the one we ended up with.

I'm talking about a possible Shenmue 4 or whatever. After 3's trainwreck i'm not seeing investors interested in wasting money on this series and Yu Suzuki.
Ports or a quick remaster like this is no suprise if released on more platforms since most of the work it's all done.
Well, hopefully, if these changes significantly improve/fix the gameplay and it sells well enough, Investors would see that there is still interest in the series and may greenlight the sequel. There's a lot of "if's" but there's still a possibility.

I genuinely believe third game is beyond saving to be honest. Unless they add in an ACTUAL combat system, add a real ending and don't make the entire game a slog and waste of time. It just felt awful to play, and felt like it was trying to chase what made the first two unique whilst failing miserably at every turn. From someone who loves and has loved the original 2 games since DC launch, and plays then yearly... 3 was an embarrassment to gaming.

Just stop wasting everyone's time and make 4, do it in the same engine from the original games, do it as an anime, a book, anything just finish the damn story please lol

I might buy a PS5 version depending on the quality of the version. The game itself is kind of meh unfortunately , but I am a sucker for Shenmue.

I wouldn't consider it a mistake on your end, you (and everyone else) had no way of knowing he was going to squander the opportunity and swindle everyone.

It really needs one big adjustment. Everything else, I will just let it pass with big fat shenmue-fan hat on, even the filler-like storytelling... but battle is just not fun at all. Too much delay in battle input, as well as no grabbing/throw.

I kickstarted & platinumed the game, including DLC... and glad that annoying kid's raspberrying you isn't the last scene of my entire Shenmue experience. (Story DLC).... but my hope is quite low.

Yeah, the combat was my biggest gripe. Well, aside from the big climax hinted at in the campaign being missing anyway.

Patch Notes:
Lucky Hit is now more LUCKY.
Cats can now fart as originally intended.
Small added cut-scene that reveals your father was never dead, only taking a nap. Ryu's journey of revenge is over.

I really liked 1, but I lost interest in 2 almost immediately for some reason. Never got around to 3. Watched the anime, which was terrible IMO.

Let me add that I played the first game on Dreamcast, and again about a year ago I think.

Shenmue had cool tech and graphics for 1999.
It had an absurd and stupid plot ("looking for some sailors" isn't just some meme, it's the whole game that has a retarded plot).

All Shenmue 3 had to do is let you beat the shit out of Long D and call it the end of the saga. Because that's all there is to it really.

Yakuza has been consistently a better version of the same general concept, nobody needs derpy shenmue.

If you can turn off the stamina system altogether, it will be a much more tolerable experience. I felt like that got in the way of my enjoyment and is the main reason I bounced off it. Like others have said though, I'd rather get a proper remaster or updated version of the first 2.

The idea of Shenmue is good, even the concept of "a life simulator", but the director was not up to managing a project of this magnitude. If he had, he would have known that life simulators are not fun and do not sell well. Yakuza partially corrected Shenmue's flaws, but I would say that only the Ichiban Kasuga saga, being more fantasy-based, has the foundations to transform the old Shenmue formula into a success. Who knows, maybe that will happen in Stranger Than Heaven.

I backed this kickstarter from day one and let me tell you, disappointed. I couldn't believe how bootleg that shit was. A fucking legend created… this mediocre shit.

I felt the same way, I put 600 bucks into that miserable game.... Shenmue 2 DC edition from 2001 is a much better game, From the Characters, Story, protagonist and antagonists all were great, The environments were excellent and the music was top notch, The battle system and the qtes were also great and exciting and the Kowloon chapter and finale was such a huge step in the story heating up.

The game felt immersing, Authentic and alive.

Going from all that to such a hideous game like S3 was the biggest nutshot to fans.

I genuinely think YS forgot what he had developed already in the story line and S3 ending shows that with Shenhuas dad basically repeating Yuanda Zhus speech, I mean the guy admitted he never even replayed S1 and S2 to refresh his memory that's appalling imo.

Will check it out, but the main issue with the 3 (other than pacing) is the story didn't meaningfully advance. It's writing needs a makeover and I suspect they don't have the budget for that.

Another kickstarter mug here, put down $185 for that shit, between this and the wonderful101 kickstarter I swore to never crowd fund again, there was no need for crowdfunding when the majority of investment came from elsewhere (and was likely known about before the kickstarter began)
Interested to see what "enhancements" there are, and I still wear my shenmue T-shirt from the kickstarter (although only in winter since the material is the thickest material on a T-shirt by a large margin I own) the capsule toy is with other figures I have, god know where the other stuff like the actual physical game, sound track cd and art book, not on pride of place display that's for sure…
