Shenmue Anime (first trailer)

... fuck yeah!

I just saw that and I did not see that coming.

Edit: Where's the pachinko machines, the gatcha balls and the forklift races?

Is it the same studio that does all these videogame pseudo-anime shows or what is going on? Is that a house style or does all modern anime look that shitty?

Hey at least it's not that 2016 Berserk anime

WTF, this doesn't look bad? Im in!

It will be interesting to see if the story holds up on a different medium and how non fans receive it.

It looks amazing and I am in day one. Now I just hope they can finish the story in the anime or in the game. We have waited so long.

Wow. I mean, all hand drawn action? Not CG stick figures in 2021? Color me impressed.

Ryo looks pretty emotionless, just like the game LOL! He actually looks even "bad-ass" like in a way. I shoudl call him "Fu-Ryo"....
He kinda looks creepy - almost like a serial killer, not a bumbling high schooler. :) Still, looking forward to it.

I like this. Of course they're not gonna finish the story, but I'd be fine with it.

I knew this was happening but totally forgot. It actually looks good, maybe they'll manage to finish more of the story this way.

Loved Shenmue 1 & 2. Sadly it seems my tastes have changed since i was a kid. Couldn't get into 3. However I will watch this. It looks really good.

Didn't know this was a thing, looks pretty good.

Me too.

Compared the Shenmue animation with this gold animation

3:03 to 6:26

Aesthetically that looks nicer. But the animation is pretty damn basic. You barely see them fighting, it's mostly zoomed in shots.

Just as in live action movies, it's nicer when it looks like this :

Shouldn't this have arrived in 2019? Well, better late than never. Maybe I can skip 1+2 after this and jump straight to 3.

This looks too good for adult swim. The budget is more than bus fare and a McDonalds 2 for 3.50. I thought Adult Swim would have given Tim and Erik five dollars to crank out another ten shows.

i was ready to shit on it but the fights don't look half as bad as i suspected.
Kinda hyped about it, cool.

Don't, 1+2 are way better than 3.
They where also games developed with the biggest budgets at their time tho, 3 was made with scraps in comparison.

Good luck getting anything with the talent and budget as Knocking on heavens door now, maybe in a blue moon.

Yeah these days it's hard.
Though you can still find some decent stuff as long as talented people like Yutaka Nakamura are involved and the studio is willing to give them the time and budget to really shine.

But for every 1 show (or scene really) like that you'll get 10 Ps2 era CGI ones

Don't get me wrong, i think there is a lot of good animation still, but the era of huge buckets of money on passion projects it's kinda over.

And yes, Nakamura is amazing, i love his swords/sticks too, can't miss his particular style with them.
