Shin Godzilla underappreciated by hardcore fans

I love this movie. I grew up on Godzilla and do not mind at all that Shin Gojira was so different.

I actually liked the human drama unlike other Godzilla movies.

I was shocked to see it has only a 6.8 on IMDB and not a very high audience rating on RT.

This movie is kind of like what Casino Royale is to the Bond franchise.

The atomic breathe scene is amazing:

The ending scene is chilling. It's like a mix of Evangelion and HR Giger Alien.

I liked it quite a bit. I didn't know what to expect and was really surprised by what the movie had to give.

But I understand any criticism that it's boring, structurally bizarre, or has way too much boardroom and conference room talking for a Godzilla movie.

yeah i love it and look forward to the shin godzilla universe

those little tail humanoids = hell unleashed on earth

they'll morph into gidorah, rodan, destoroyah, etc.

what i love about shin's human element of the film is that there aren't any heroes, they're groups of professionals doing their jobs

meanwhile stranger things is busy imitating surprise pikachu

american avengers lizard might as well have a triangle on it's chest with a big ass "G" in the middle

i love that in the toho world these monsters work off of traits of real-world fauna

shin godzilla having an amphibian biology, absolutely brilliant

I think all of the boardroom and conference room talking is all I vaguely remember of that movie.

It's good but I always wonder how many people actually were familiar with the satirization of Japanese politics and government bureaucracy or simply wrote that off as the usual "boring shit" that fills these movies between the monster action. =P

And personally I found the final shot to be the most interesting part of the movie. Or not so much interesting as intriguing at what it was about to lead to.

6.8 is actually high for IMDB. I believe it has a higher score than the original Godzilla movie. Rotten Tomatoes is shit, but the score is pretty high on there too.

The atomic breath scene was intense in the theater. Only other movie I saw in IMAX after that was Blade Runner 2049. Love the movie and the message it had about government being slow to act on disasters.

Great movie. Only thing that’s not so good is Satomi Ishihara’s cringeworthy performance. She played the envoy for the United States' president that’s supposed to be fluent in English. Only problem is the actress doesn’t speak a word of it.

6.8 is good/great on IMDB.
This isn't a videogame where anything below an 8 is considered garbage or a comic book movie that was bombarded by positive reviews from manchildren

I just came across this yesterday. That would have been fucking amazing. I wish they would have made it. Maybe they'll do it in the future.
toho have expressed their thoughts on a shin godzilla sequel, which involves no explicit shin godzilla sequel movie but multiple different movies that share the same shin godzilla universe

so i think more shin godzilla is on it's way, just he won't be under a spotlight as a main "star"

along with those tail humanoids i believe will come rodan, king gidorah, destoroyah, new phenomenon, etc.

i dream of a gushy fleshy eyeball filled mucus mass that spews out of godzilla and evolves into a winged destoroyah

I love it and watched it in the limited theatrical release it got in the US. The Hollywood Godzilla movies just lack the crazy Japanese shit in this and other Kaiju movies.

they fixed that in the dub and it makes her character way better.

I liked it very much except for the central part which lost a little bit focus to me.
It was a good satire and pretty intelligible.
People who didn't like the film put the blame on the movie for their lack of understanding.

Nah I’m glad with what they did with the american one. The animalistic nature helped make it a grounded, empathetic character rather than another malicious monster movie that we’ve seen rebooted over and over again. Definitely helped to make him stand out.

but hey, I think we can all (mostly) agree that the monster verse godzilla is still better than 1998’s zilla

Pissed me off that no UHD version was out at release.
I made sure to get the Blu-Ray release as my first purchase when I upgraded my TV from 720p to 4k. 1080p is as good as we're going to get right now and now I just want to watch it again. Thanks for this thread.

She's so hot. But she's like.....Rose Tico if Rose Tico was attractive. A terrible character.

It was a political/crisis management movie with a very few mins of disaster scenes. Bored me to death tbh, none of the characters were interesting and the whole "we must push our own plan instead of the other assholes' that have a destructive one" plot line was pretty cliche. Still, you gotta admire the visuals, it was very different from what I'm used to and I kinda liked it.
