Shin'en Games to release Fast Fusion on Switch 2 launch day

I found Fast RMX to have some tracks that were frustratingly designed so I doubt I'll get this unless they improve their track design. I also don't like narrow tracks on these types of racers (Wipeout is the same). F Zero's wide tracks are much superior for fast, futuristic racers.

Fast rmx was my second switch game.
Man, 3 racers for me on launch day. Mario kart world, f-zero gx and now this. And the controller doesn't have analog triggers….

Buy the GC controller, it works great on GRID autosport.

Does anyone else find it weird that Fast Fusion is cheaper at launch than Fast RMX was for Switch launch in March 2017? I clearly remember paying $19.99 for it. Eight years later for a 4K sequel and it's $5 cheaper? 🤔

What's going on here? Is it light on content in order to hit the launch day? That's what I'm assuming.

For reference the game is still $19.99 on Switch eShop. It find it very curious.

It's the inflation.

Wait

so... the game clearly doesn't run at 1080p in performance mode on handheld.

it's the worst looking game Shinen ever made I think when playing performance handheld mode.

they are clearly running the game far below 1080p (maybe even sub 720p) and are using the worlds worst temporal reconstruction to create a "1080p" image.
as a result, the game looks worse in motion than Fast RMX did on Switch 1.

I am kinda shocked tbh at how bad it looks.

it's fine in docked mode, but handheld mode is... man...

He's right, the game has really abysmal image quality. I thought some sort of sick joke had been played on me when I first booted up the game because the performance mode looks like someone put on a 480p Youtube stream. It's that bad.

I only find the second highest quality mode usable in docked mode. Apparently Shin'en say a patch is in the works to make that mode a consistent 4K60fps. The game looks good but it really needs better image quality.

Did you played Fast RMX on Switch 1? Fast Fusion looks miles better than Fast RMX on Switch 1. Remember this is a small team and they made their engine, the game is not perfect, but the achievement is enormous.

the image quality ruins the presentation. Fast RMX had very clean image quality.
pushing graphical fidelity at the expense of image quality isn't always a good idea. Fast RMX looks more pleasant

here's how it looks in Handheld mode btw:

it's the worst looking game they ever made, I stand by that. it just looks awful in motion.

edit2: comparison vs Fast RMX in handheld mode:

are the lighting, the materials and effects more primitive? sure, it's running on a system with ⅐ the GPU power, so of course. but the image quality is far better, especially in motion (which is hard to convey with screenshots).
but even in still images, just compare the 2 cars, in Fast RMX it isn't super high res looking, but it looks smooth... in Fast Fusion it looks like the AA is broken and it's fully pixelated. also look at the shadows in the trees... a dithered mess in Fast Fusion, and pretty smooth looking in Fast RMX.

the biggest issue you'll see in RMX is the overbearing looking chromatic aberration, which makes the image look a bit weird at times.

I have Fast RMX and have the same issues… Fast Fusion looks better. Not saying that is perfect, but saying that RMX looks better is not true at all.

Fast RMX looked amazing for a Switch 1 game. and looked amazing on the Switch 1's 720p screen.

Fast Fusion looks bad for a Switch 2 game. and looks bad on the Switch 2's 1080p screen.

it actually looks lower resolution than RMX as well. this has to be sub 720p, maybe 540p with a 2x scale on each axis using some really bad form of TAAU.
it's just a bad use of the Switch 2's hardware 🤷 they should have focused on pristine image quality and then go from there, but clearly they did it the other way around, pushing graphical effects and environmental detail hard while image quality was an afterthought

actually, to my tastes the docked performance mode looks the best.

it seems that in that mode they aren't trying to reconstruct to a higher resolution, and just run native 1080p. the TAA they are using still doesn't look amazing when it doesn't try to reconstruct to a higher res, but it seems to me to have way less artifacts than any other docked mode.

it looks lower res, but it looks the cleanest IMO.
but all the modes look very similar to eachother either way. it's only a tiny difference

also, small gameplay tip I found out by accident: try jumping through the Fast Fusion logo at the finish line each round to get extra currency and turbo. you have to fly through the hologram part tho and not hit the frame around it or you'll blow up
