Shoot the Core! - Gaf Shoot ‘em Up (aka Shooter/SHMUP) Reference Thread

Definitely. I don't much like R-Type Leo and In the Hunt is fun but it doesn't excite me as much as X-Multiply, R-Type, Dragon Breed, etc.

Of their non-shooting games, I really like Ninja Spirit.
I don't know I just love their gun force/gun force 2/in the hunt trilogy

Buy yes Image Fight and X-Multiply are great

Image Fight is an Irem shooter, it's prety good (but a bit on the old side, it's from 1988)
Wolf Fang is a Data East shmup, it's average imho
Philosoma is a terrible shmup that'S only famous because of its eye candy
Strikers 1945 is a Psykio shooter and is very good
Taoplan Shooting Battle is a compilation of various old Taoplan shmups. Taoplan making great shmups, it's highly recommanded if you like old style ones.
Metaphlist is a weird experimental shooter with a lockon ability (like Raystorm).
Night Raid is an amazing Takumik shooter (of Mars Matrix fame)
Gaia Seed is a fun shooter in the Thunder Force vein (but not as good as 3 or 4). The music's nice though.

My post was a bit confusing. I'm aware of most of these (sans the obscure PSX exclusives like Philosoma, META-PH-LIST, Night Raid and Gaia Seed). The others I was just aware of having PSX ports (that it seems are superior to the Saturn ports, like DoDonPachi.

I actually have Wolf Fang on the Saturn! ;)

I don't know why they would exclusively release it on the X1.

Speaking of titles that have been missing. Where is Radiant Silvergun for Steam?!

I think it might be one of those IPs Treasure doesn't own themselves. Wasn't the XBLA version published by MS?

I think I was randomly checking to see if any new 360 games were added similar to Shooting Love & I found that, but about a day after finding it, it went down. It shows up if you try searching for it, but the page doesn't load because between "marketplace" & "xbox" in the URL, it has "spro" which makes the URL not work. Removing it takes you to the same page as I cached, but just "page not found".

I'd get on my 360 to see if I could find it on the marketplace there, but I have to leave soon & I fear because of how long I haven't turned it on, it'll boot up with an update.

They do own the IP. I don't see how MS could obtain the rights to it when they had nothing to do with its creation at the Arcades or on the Sega Saturn. Treasure mentioned bringing it to PC in time when they initially released Ikaruga on Steam.

I got a new nexus 6 and the cave shooters don't work on anymore.

Is this a k of issue with newer phones?

All Cave shmups work only up to Android 4.3. Thank the Korean B-tier company that ported them and abandoned support right after.

  1. Crimzon Clover World Ignition
  2. Danmaku Unlimited 2
  3. Everything else

Alright, I can buy The Tale of Alltynex collection

OR

XIIZeal and either KAMUI and RefleX.

What should I get?

should also download the final boss demo and check that out. originally planned as a freeware game, but people are trying to convince the developer to charge for it to give it more publicity (and so it isn't written off as a freeware title). not even completed yet, but it's been ranted and raved about by shmup fans as the "shovel knight" of the genre.

this was their debut trailer 5 years ago, and the progress has been insane. they're currently wrapping up the 2nd loop.

God damn how is this not on STEAM yet? I'd pay good bucks for this. They also have the Zenohell game on Steam Greenlight

Chiming in to say that XIIZeal is a really fun STG with neat mechanics, I strongly suggest to buy it now that it's on sale.

Also I'd like to know what are the most beloved doujin STGs here? I'm a Touhou trash and I'm also madly in love with Hellsinker, but I still haven't played much else outside of the games on Steam.

Crimzon Clover is an absolute must-have, although it goes on sale so often that I've pretty much stopped mentioning it because I figured everyone must already own it by now. (It was even included in the recent Humble RPG Maker Bundle, of all things.)

If you want something a little less conventional, try REVOLVER360 RE:ACTOR or Super Chain Crusher Horizon.

How cabbage? Crimzon Clover has below-average system requirements.

Yep. Hilariously, when we went to check out Yes Boss's setup last year, the PC he had could run Crimzon Clover perfectly but chugged like hell on Jamestown. Efficiency apparently isn't a hallmark of the latter.
