Ok.. Cyberhome died a bit back, picked up a Phillips DVP642, very happy with it, easy to region hack, etc...

Our family room 5 disc JVC DVD player died a bit back... I've told the missus I'll replace it. The replacement doesn't have to be 5 disc, but it should have a decent amount of features "on the remote", my only beef with the Phillips... (no open button wtf?). All the usual hook ups in back for use with surround sound, digital optical out, etc.... she doesn't care but it'd be REAL nice if the DVD player was also region hackable that way that would give me another room to be able to view my other region DVD's... any suggestions? Price? Hmmm let's cap it at $200.

I don't have any suggestions but you could take a look at This. Maybe you'll find something.

BTW. How's that remote working out? Still waiting for mine to be delivered.

Still learning how to add additional activities and tweak the built in ones but so far I'm REALLY happy with it.... now if I could find some time to actually sit down and mess around with it more.

There is an open button. I think you hold down stop and it'll eject the disc.

Yes, I simply meant there isn't a separate open button, and overall the remote is pretty lite on having buttons for accessing various features.

Arcade is your JVC region hackable?

Why would you need an eject on the remote. You gotta bend down to take the disc out...surely an open button next to it is common sense.

Let me clarify. There is no open/eject button on the Phillips, to get it to open/eject you have to hold down the stop button for a few seconds.

Are you saying there's no open/eject button on your Philips machine itself? On mine, it's right beside the disc tray. Thanks for the tip about the stop button, though. I haven't read my manual, so that's good to know.

On the remote. There is no open/eject button on the remote for the machine, instead you have to hold down the stop button for a few seconds...

but we're getting away from the point of this thread I'm looking for recommendations per my earliest postings!

Yeah, what's the deal w/ needing an open button on the remote? If you need to open the DVD drive then you're going to be at the unit anyways to take out the disc right?

Finally bought a new PSP, but then pushed the demon onto someone else. Jesus.
JVC's are great. Panasonic has a nice slim unit out as well. My only issue w/ my current JVC is that mp3 playback doesn't use toslink/optical. A pain since that's how it and everything else in my HT is connected. But how often do I even use that feature...?
