I actually think the current lineup is EXTREMELY good for such a new system from a company invading a new market. There are a number of great games on the system along with plenty of good ones. The future lineup looks a bit bleak, unfortunately, but it really isn't as bad as peole make it out to be.

Yea, I think the existing lineup is pretty damn good. Far better than the DS's, that's for sure. The problem, perception-wise, is just that all but one of the really good games came at launch, and it's been very slow since then. People tend to disregard 3+ month old games as irrelevant even if they haven't played them, unless those games are Halo/GTA/RE-level "killer apps".

The DS's future lineup does seem better, but with Burnout, GTA, Virtua Tennis, Winning Eleven, the Codemasters racers and plenty else on the way, I don't think the PSP suffers THAT badly in comparison.

Anyway, to the topic creator: I'm still happy with mine, bought at launch. The most important thing is to make sure that you are interested in the kind of games the PSP is likely to get. If you like racing games it's surely your best bet

There is ONE major flaw, however, but that is EASILY corrected with a 1gb memory stick and a 1.50 PSP. Ripping the UMD to the memstick and playing it from there pretty much removes most of the loading.

Oh, we're getting into _that_ solution now, are we? :/ "The loading isn't optimized for the medium it's sold on, but hey, if you copy off the data and utilize an exploit in an old version of the firmware, it's much better!"

Okay, so I got one at Costco with Wipeout and ATV fury for 319. It's sweet, I'm enjoying it much.

I can't get it to work with my wireless though. After scanning, identifying my wifi network, i get "80410d09" when attempting to Test Connection. I've googled it up and down, and there doesnt seem to be any defined problem with it. I did see someone say that you should wait before your PSP is fully charged before trying. Any suggestions?

Wifi settings: no wep, no mac filtering, its your basic unsecured network (gotta love small towns).

Hot tip, BTW.

If you have a 1.50, you can use the most recent WAB loader to play Wipeout Pure at a full 333 MHz straight from the UMD. By doing this, the game ends up running at 60 fps most of the time (except during time trials and such, where it is locked at 30 fps by the game). It drains the battery a bit faster, but it's worth it if you don't need that extra battery life at the time.

Slightly off-topic, but am I wrong in expecting that the mod-community will eventually crack the newer firmware releases? If not that would be pretty depressing... I'll get a White PSP when it runs Amiga games flawlessly.

Of course if you mention that you love Tetris, you should definitely give Lumines a try... I'm sure you already know this. Better yet, just go to Blockbuster and rent a buncha games...

Yeah, it absoloutely sucks. The seek times are terrible when using the UMD. Some games play just fine from the UMD, but for unoptimized games, it's a real problem. Mercury, Ape Escape, Untold Legends, and a couple others are only playable from the memory stick IMO. The lengthy UMD loads really hurt the experience. I stopped playing those games due to that, but am able to enjoy them again thanks to the loaders.

Not a huge deal, though. It's extremely easy to rip a UMD and use the loader and it allows you to have multiple games on your PSP at once.
