It's been "ready to install" on my computer for a while now, but I've been hesitant after hearing some bad things about it.

Is it really something to have on your computer?

I was in the same boat. I got tired of the automatic update prompting me all the time, so I installed it last week. I kinda regret it since SP2 is supposed to be a piece of shit, but it hasn't hurt my system at all...yet. I'm not knocking on wood, I think people who experience problems have other issues with their systems. If someone goes wrong, I'm the Event Viewer and some quick web searching/trouble shooting away from fixing. Push comes to shove, I'm not afraid to reinstall and remove the cancer. I say go for it if the update is bugging you like it was bugging me. Just do a system backup before you go. I didn't, but I'm notoriously reckless. :lol PEACE.
