Should MS really hang their hat on Game Pass and Xcloud?

I've tried GP and while its cool and all, is it really that amazing that MS should put all their focus on it? Sure, it has 300 games on there but they are mostly older titles or games that kinda bombed. MS's day one exclusives are obviously the main draw here but its not like MS is known for their amazing exclusives either.

GP also has a major draw back when it comes to next gen gaming. We are at the dawn of a new console generation and everybody is expecting MS and Sony to blow us away with amazing next gen experiences, experiences that'll require next gen hardware. How is MS supposed to show us those games when 99% of the GP users are running potato spec pc's and the whole point of GP is to not exclude anyone?

Love or hate it. These things are the future of gaming, and MS know it.

However, I think MS are getting ahead of themselves with Xcloud. We're still not quite ready (Maybe in five or so years).

In the future i think Gamepass and Sony's version will focus more on b-tier/indie games and less on main exclusives. Especially in Sony's case as they are so lucritive and eventually, the same will be said for Microsoft.

What Microsoft should do, is release a fucking handheld to compliment Xcloud. Have the remote play option like vita. The only time i've wanted Microsoft to copy Nintendo is now, with the Switch. Not the Pseye toy camera, not the Wii, not the kiddy games, just make a handled you fucks!

Why do you think Microsoft bought 15 studios? To keep those "OMG, Microsoft has no games" bawlers quiet? No, that are only coregamers and many of them would only get a Xbox if Microsoft holds their family hostage. They bought it to fill up Game Pass with new and affordable games.

What are you talking about? I know that third party titles don't come to GP day one, but they had games like Metro Exodus, Devil May Cry 5, Monster Hunter World and plenty of other, successful games not that long after release.

And of course, they have all first party games day one, which in this year alone brought/will bring games like Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Gears Tactics, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Halo Infinite.

GAF is the only forum downplaying GP so hard that it's almost insane. But what can you expect, right?

nope. They won't quit. They will just move the goalposts. First it was "Xbox haz no gamez"...then it was "Only Halo, Gears and Forza" and now they already prepared stuff like "their games will be old gen, because the need to take to account base Xbox One". Don't worry, they will always find a way

This entire post is trash and nothing more. I thought DanielsM got banned?

I love gamepass; its great as long as they keep titles fresh. If they can actually release some great exclusives then its value increases majorly for anyone interested in picking up an Xbox.

Now Xcloud im not sure about. Ive never used it so i dont want to knock it too bad. However, ive definitely heard that there is lag, which is a no from me.

It's kind of the issue where something like Netflix, THE biggest streaming service, is 14 billion dollars in debt, and took years of massive worldwide market expansion to show any profits, and game development is much more expensive.
I'd like to see what are MS's projections on the matter, as their financials only covered subscriber counts (while also removing info on Live Gold subscribers).

Yes, it's the future . You have to invest now to grow in the long term.I have ultimate and basically no need to buy games anymore .

Yeah well, but it's launching in September, I believe. xCloud that is.

No if it works for them as a company then it's great and only they know how viable it is as a business regardless how good a value proposition it is for the consumer (it is good value ) I guess this coming gen is when we will see it blossom or fail over the next 7 years either way people are gonna get a shit ton of games out of it so just enjoy the ride let Ms worry about the details .

No don't discontinue game pass. Only good thing to come out of Xbox in the last couple years. I think they can focus on both? Please?

Who gives a shit? If this is the direction that they think is best, let them do it. If it works, then other will do it and create competition. If it doesn't, move onto the next thing.

They should rather work out a deal with Nintendo to put xCloud on Switch.

Moreover, the Surface Duo will soon be released. That's Microsoft's Xboy.

Yeah theres no way they arent envisioning gaming on the duo and neo imo. Expensive as hell tho

Release a Surface tablet with Xbox One APU.

Nahh fuck working with the switch.

Microsoft can, and do, make powerful, sleek hardware, when they want to.

I don't want a pauper, budget Switch. I would happily pay for a truly powerful handheld console from Microsoft. 500+ if needs be, just make it powerful, sleek and a nice form factor

That's their lifeline. After that it's going fully third party and having that division be a shell of its former self. Borrowed time imo. We'll have an answer in late 2022. Console sales matter.

If you remember that Microsoft is primarily a software and services company then it really shouldn't be too surprising that they are pushing in this direction. Especially since this is the company that got everyone to pay for online multiplayer.

It's more bizarre that Sony and Nintendo haven't created their own Game Pass model considering their catalog of games. I imagine they could get $20-30 per month to play every 1st party Sony or Nintendo game.

Can't take you seriously.

I'll just say this: I went PS4 and didn't see any reason to get an XBOne, so I hadn't given MS any dollarydoos this gen until Gamepass came out on PC. And to be honest, I'm probably going with a PS5 this gen too, but now MS gets my money too because I like Gamepass, and the more they keep adding to it, the more I like it. Can't wait for Flight Simulator next month. Can't wait for Halo Infinite without having to buy a new console. It's a pretty chill service IMO.

Microsoft can make $$$, especially if whatever deal they had with Nintendo regarding gamepass and xcloud goes through, that's a lot of subs on that side. Also they could sell the XSX at a loss for a bit to make it up. All Microsoft has to do is bring the GAMES. New Fable, New Jrpg, new IP, Microsoft is in a real good position right now.

Then it will be "OMG games load 50% slower, can't M$ do anything right??"

Love to bring this up and I feel like this is once again the correct thread to do so.

Bought 3 years of Xbox Live for about €145. Upgraded this for €1 to gamepass ultimate. Split the investment with a mate.

Got my friend's Xbox One X registered as my main console, use my gamertag on my console and also play on PC.

We both now got 3 years of Live Gold.
We both now got 3 years of Gamepass.
I also have the pretty neat Gamepass library on PC.

I paid €75 / $85 for this. I already made it worth because I would have bought Halo Infinite and Ori 2 anyways.
I play SOOOO many gamepass games.

It's fucking great.

It's doubtful that the OP has indeed tried Game Pass.

He is probably concerned about Sony's future, and the natural way to cope with such insecurity is to try to concern troll the threat (Game Pass) based on alternative facts (i.e. FUD and lies).

Also doesn't have 300 games. No idea where he got that number.

I mean it is probably off to a better start than netflix. When netflix first launched their streaming service the selection was complete garbage. I remember watching a movie that was literally made by teenagers with a camcorder.

Plus the whole point of xcloud is to allow you to play amazing next gen experiences on potato PCs.

Define "next gen experience" without devolving into how great X game will look.

I actually think gaming would be a much easier road to hoe in terms of profitability. The primary reason being you don't need nearly as much new content. Individual episodes of original programing are cheaper than game production, but you need a LOT of them. I will say I was kind of down on streaming until I tried PSNow, it might not be for graphic whores :messenger_tears_of_joy: but is a fun, very playable experience.

What? Gamepass is incredible. Especially if you have more than one Xbox in the house. I've got 3 and everybody has access to all the game in their respective rooms and there is always something for different to play.

You're willing to miss out on every game that isn't on GamePass? That's crazy to me.

But, I've always owned every console, so I could always play whatever games I'm most interested in.

A single season of a TV shows can hold an audience for months, and still cost less than a game that can be beat in a week.

Still, the biggest hurdle is that Netflix eventually reached profitability by massively expanding its audience to every single device with an internet connection on the planet. MS, even accounting for game streaming, doesn't have the same reach.

The whole point of doing xCloud is to reach those people.

Game pass is the definition of unmatched value. Haven't bought. $60 game since. Not even $40. I do expect at some point that GP will be $20 a month at some point if not more and that'll be the downfall.

GamePass Ultimate is $15 a month. Still less than the 4K Tier of Netflix and the same price as HBO.
