Should the DS have included some basic PDA functions?

Beyond the alarm, I mean. It has a clock and built-in calendar - but do you reckon they should've included some basic PDA functions such as setting a few memos/or notes (written pictochat style) that gave you an alarm when you booted up that day? A to-do list? Just a memo pad that could save? Perhaps the built-in memory isn't much.

The alalrm itself works when you put it into sleep mode only (ie., it doesn't power on to go off). Do you reckon they should've had that opeion? Imean, it obviously has some power to pwer the clock...may it could've had some startup swith enabled from the alarm (maybe this would be too open to abuse, or use up the back-up power source too much).

What other functions do you wish were built-in to the DS? (considering the price is kept to a minimum).

I overheard a Nintendo rep at the Redmond DS launch talking about some PIM (Personal Information Manager) program coming to the DS. Soon, I hope.

Haha!, yeah, why build it-in when you can sell it for more later! Then again, yuo can build it-in, and someone will try and sell it again (re:Ping-Pals).

I suppose they runt he risk of diluting their precious 'gameing-only' philosophy...

But such features would make you turn it on a lot more regularly...

Anyone remember that old personal data manager for the original brick gameboy? I understand you could also get a teeny keyboard that plugged into the GB.

I have the Travel Guide GB cart that lists restaurants and other info like that for a dozen or so important cities in the USA. It came in handy while we were in Atlanta.
MK&A also made their own crappy crappy crappy GBC PIM cart.
Personally I keep a Zire71 with me. Before I had those, I used the Sega IR7000, or whatever it is. I looked at it again over Xmas break. I miss that guy. I got a couple friends to get one and we'd message all the time and play the Face battle game.

Tough one. I dont think consoles can compete against phones for this. There more phones sold for PDA functions than PDA's. Same goes for consoles however. So i guess they could squeeze these functions in there. The touch screen is an added advantage. Perhaps someone should make this instead of Ping Pals?

Yes, it's totally retarded that it has a date, time function without any memo function at all. Older players my ass. It would kick a cell phones ass in this respect since it actually has a touch screen.

The DS should've had a built-in solitaire game.... of course, then it'd be the best game available for the system. Hee hee.

Yes, even a rudimentary memo storage system would have been welcomed. A datebook would be even better. When people at work saw my DS, PDA functions were one of the first things they asked about.

I think it would have been nice to have PDA functions. When I saw it had a calendar I was a little surprised to find that you can't scrawl in little notes on it too.
