FFXIV has a whopping 4 pages of discussion despite being the second most successful MMO of all time. There is no post or discussion about the soon to be released 5.3 patch. That "community" is nonexistent on NeoGAF.
Wheres the DOTA2 community? League of Legends? Path of Exile? Rimworld? CSGO? Kerbal Space Progam? Obscure non-console games like
Among Us or publishers like
Zachtronics? Non-steam games like
Industries of Titan? Skyrim modding? Witcher 3 modding? GTA5 modding? What if we want to talk about the best PC settings for a game? How about IPS vs VA monitors and the best gaming monitors at specific price points?
The point of splitting the community as proposed is to better cater to different types of people.
For instance, I think console gamers value convenience over customizability, and vice versa for pc gamers. This means that they have different technical and logistical problems. There's no reason to think that their value systems may not be different in other ways as well. Secondly, if people migrating to this PC subforum significantly decreases the quality of the discussion in the Gaming Discussion forum then that means that those contributing to that quality discussion made the choice to engage in an improved community, i.e., you're forcing people to engage in a place that is of a lower quality than they should need to or, worst of all, not engage at all.
I have no problem participating in console+pc gaming forums when the participants are primarily pc gamers. But participating in console+pc gaming forums when the participants are not primarily pc gamers is a different beast.
