Great game but not as scary as I'd been told. That Pyramid Head thing was more annoying then scary. Maybe if he actually felt like a threat. Still great game but it lacks something the first had.

I found Silent Hill 2 to be the scariest. I wasn't scared of Pyramid Head from his appearance though. It was the whole mood of the game that made me uncomfortable.

Silent Hill 2 was better than the first in my opinion. At least the second one's story was more coherent than the first. It was also creepier. That whole shadowy figure down the hall shambling slowly ino the view of your flashlight thing was scary. =P

I only found the first Silent Hill to be frightening, because it was the very first survival horror game I ever played. Just about every survival horror game after and before SH hasn't scared me at all.

agreed, SH2 touches on topics that most games steer clear of...and if you look hard enough, has themes that are downright creepy

Well...I found SH1 to be more horror, while SH2 was more of a thriller. SH1 was more raw, dirty, through the depths of hell kind of style. SH2 was more personal (it was more about inner demons, so to speak) and thoughtful. But SH2 did have some scary areas. But the whole Silent Hill concept felt more fresh with SH1...so maybe that's why SH2 had less of an impact on me from a horror point of view.
And yeah, SH1 is still my favorite SH game.

This was the first horror game that I ever played and I thought it is very disturbing. The game really bothered me. Fatal Frame was the next one I played. That I thought was scary but SH2 was just disturbing.

The thing with SH1 was unless you did everything right (and that includes some rather obscure stuff that I would have never done without a FAQ), then you don't really get the full story, which kind of sucks.

Agree with 1 being more raw and scarier because of it - the whole thing was like a nightmare, I could only manage playing about 30 mins at a time. It's got to be the scariest piece of media out there, scarier than any other games, movies or books.

However, I do think 2 was the better game - the plot was a lot more interesting, and you get the feeling that some thought has gone into the psychology behind the characters.
