Silicon Knights Gets Unreal

my favorite part:
Mark Rein, vice president and co-founder of Epic Games said: "We are very excited to be working with Silicon Knights this generation. Combining the technology of the Unreal Engine 3 with the creativity of Silicon Knights has awesome potential. Silicon Knights is a powerhouse for creating original content and the Unreal Engine 3 is a perfect vehicle to deliver it on."
Huh? I like SK, I loved Eternal Darkness, I have MGS:TS, but last I checked a Legacy of Kain game, ED, and a remake of a PS1 game does not equal "powerhouse", let alone one of original content.

I wonder if Silicon Knights still has that "mystery GC title" in development that was on the Nintendo Norway site. 2007 seems pretty far away to wait for their next project...

It's a press release. The fact is that SK hasn't had a blockbuster title in years.

It's a fucking press release for god's sake, what the hell did you expect?

SK has never released a blockbuster game.

That said, I think it is fair to call them creative. Among all of the cliche, boring, uninspired games released these days, stuff like Eternal Darkness and Legacy of Kain are reletively high up on the food chain, creatively.

While I understand there are a lot of people who dislike Eternal Darkness, it does have an overall rating of 92% from the critics. Some would call that a pretty big achievement.

People blame SK for what happened to Twin Snakes. But really, sole responsibility in development falls on the one who controls everything, ie. Kojima. After all, it was Kojima who gave the directorial command over to Kitamura, and it was Kojima who greenlighted everything that SK did.

I despise the Metal Gear franchise to begin with, so it really doesn't even matter. I wish SK hadn't wasted their time with it.

I wonder if Too Human will ever come out in the near future. It seems like they're just going start fresh with UE3. Is it too much to hope for a surprise showing of a nearly-finished TH at E3?

It's worthy of that score as well

For good reason.

No actually he had VERY LITTLE actual development or design hands-on with Twin Snakes. Stop talking out of your ass.

After all, it was Kojima who gave the directorial command over to Kitamura, and it was Kojima who greenlighted everything that SK did.

Directorial command for JUST THE CUTSCENES. Those are the least of the complains. Kitamura is a movie director, he had nothing to do with the game's framerate, gameplay quirks, poor balance or lack of extras.

I despise the Metal Gear franchise to begin with, so it really doesn't even matter. I wish SK hadn't wasted their time with it.

Aha, so you ARE simply talking out of your ass and using a "I don't care anyway so it doesn't matter!" to try and cover? Nice try sucker. :P

Bah, I hate Kojima-fanboys. Although I was hoping that response would have been from SSX.

So clarifying facts now = fanboy? Well forgive me then. You're right, Kitamura directed Twin Snakes, Silicon Knights had almost nothing to do with it, and Kojima is completely at fault for flaws in Twin Snakes that strangely aren't apparent in the games he actually directed. I guess Kojima must be a Sony fanboy too and he deliberately made Twin Snakes bad for the GC just to make Nintendo sad! Yeah that must be it. :P

The heck? I wasn't aware that lighthearted comments about PR-speak was such a bad thing...

huh? I'm not sure that even makes sense, although I suppose in a weird way if you mis-interpreted the song that it's from it might... Yay for off topic tangents, now back to Silicon Knights. I think this is a fairly good indication why Nintendo "parted ways" with them. SK wanted awesome graphics-heavy games, Nintendo said no we don't like that. No matter though, as I'm still interested to see what they can produce. Hopefully Too Human, 3 generations in the making?

While Eternal Darkness didn't have the sales it should have, it's still a blockbuster in my mind. One of the best games I've played this generation.. :) Right up there with RE4 and Wind Waker and others. :D

Interesting. I guess their upcoming game will be for 360, I just hope PS3 gets a port.

In this case, probably, but I wouldn't look at its use of UE3 as proof of that. I'd be very surprised if there wasn't an announcement about UE3 on PS3 at E3. 3 3 3 3 3 3....

would be funny if MS bought out epic games, and prevented UE3 being available to PS3. Would be one of the better acquisitions they made, I think.
