The word is out, and we're helping to spread it! We've gotten e-mail from many of you that The Simpsons - The Complete 5th Season has been announced by Fox Home Entertainment, and we're here to tell you it's absolutely true.

Will you have to wait until Summer 2005 to get it? Nope! Even though it has been roughly a one-year wait between season sets of The Simpsons in the past, Fox is going to get Season 5's DVD set out in time for Christmas...roughly six months after the 4th Season's release. The exact date is December 21st, so be prepared to plunge into the midst of last-minute gift-shoppers to get your hands on it! We'll brave the crowds, though, and won't give it a second thought.

What makes it worthwhile? Awesome extras, as normal, can be found on this release. Commentary tracks will be recorded by many notable cast, crew, and guests. Among the commentators will be Hank Azaria, James L. Brookes, Matt Groening, Al Jean, Jon Lovitz, and newly minted future host of The Tonight Show, Mr. Conan O'Brien. And that's just a handful of the participants! Furthermore, you'll find coolness such as deleted scenes, animatics, storyboards, sketches, Commericials, and intros by creator Matt Groening. And there's more in the way of bonus material yet to be revealed! Just as soon as Fox makes the complete list of contents available, we'll bring that right to you.

Awesome. The thread about Batman: TAS got me wondering when Simpsons Season 5 was going to come out. I figured April. This works :)

Why are the guest commentators identical to Season 4's? I'll assume they recorded them at the same time?

Yet another $50 Canadian item to add to my Christmas List. Oh well.

Hmmm…looks like there may not be commentaries for every episode this time…

Fox Home Entertainment has officially announced season five of The Simpsons which will be arriving in shops this December. The set will be available to own from the 21st December, priced at around $49.98. Each of the episodes will be presented in 1.33:1 full frame along with English Dolby Digital 5.1, Spanish Stereo and French Stereo tracks.

Extras will include a commentary on Homer's Barbershop Quartet by Matt Groening, Al Jean, Hank Azaria, Jon Lovitz, Jeff Martin and Mark Kirkland, a commentary on Cape Feare by Matt Groening, Al Jean and Jon Vitti, another commentary on Homer Goes to College by Matt Groening, David Mirkin, James L. Brookes, Conan O'Brien, Jim Reardon and David Silverman, and a commentary by Matt Groening, David Mirkin, Wes Archer and David Silverman on Rosebud.

The final commentaries will be on Treehouse of Horror by Matt Groening, James L. Brookes, David Mirkin, Conan O'Brien, Greg Daniels, Bill Oakley, Josh Weinstein and David Silverman and Marge on the Lam by Matt Groening, David Mirkin, Mark Kirkland, David Silverman.

Completing the package will be animatics and storyboards with illustrated commentary, commercials, Tree House of Horror Sketches and deleted scenes entitled Homer's Barbershop Quartet, Cape Feare, Homer Goes to College, Rosebud and lastly Treehouse of Horror IV. I'm afraid the artwork has yet to be released, but we'll bring you that shortly. We're also awaiting further details from Fox as to whether or not further commentaries will be included.

If they’re not doing commentaries for every episode, that may explain why they were able to get this season out just six months after season 4.

Jeez... Simpsons box sets are going to be a damn money pit, what with the 20 or so seasons planned. I'll stick to Futurama, for now... at least there's end in sight for those box sets.

There better damn well be commentary on all; besides, I'm guessing they might have done all of Conan's at the same time, maybe, so they might have planned ahead for this.

I thought the issue was the voice talent not having the time; now that they cut the voice talent, there better be all commentaries.

Casino episode>rest of season 5. Casino episode >any episode from any season except for Homer the Union leader in season 4.

Maybe Fox realized they need to hurry the fuck up with these Simpsons season sets before everyone loses interest in them. I mean damn, a year between seasons was brutal.

I think one of the best eps was the Itchy & Scratchy Land one. Can't remember if it was from the fourth or fifth season.

Homer: *takes a shortcut. Later, the car is covered in a bunch of crap and the roof's been torn off* All right, we're here. Now let's never speak of the shortcut again.

Marge: And that bartender even looks like John Travolta!
Bartender: Yeah... looks like...

Marge: It must be wonderful to bring in the New Year again and again and again!
Waiter: Please kill me.

Marge: I just want to crawl in a hole and die.
Guards: Okay, throw her in the hole.

Bart: Hey mouse. Say, "cheese." *snaps picture, robot malfunctions* Hey, with a cool dry wit like that, I could be an action hero!
*Later*
Homer: *Snapping pictures* DIE, BAD ROBOTS! DIE! Heh heh, with a cool dry wit like that, I could be an action hero.

Then there was one last night where Homer gets a pile of sugar and it has one of my favorite rants by Homer (can't remember which season this was either):

I can't live the button-down life like you. I want it all! The terrifying lows, the dizzying highs, the creamy middles! Sure, I might offend a few of the blue-noses with my cocky stride and musky odors! Oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called City Fathers who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards, and talk about, 'What's to be done with this Homer Simpson?'!

In a perfect world, we'd all be homersexual
Announcer: Attention, Marge Simpson: your son has been arrested.
Woman: I'd be terrible embarrassed if _I_ were that boy's mother.
Marge: [groans]
Announcer: Attention, Marge Simpson: we've also arrested your older,
balder, fatter son. :D

season 5 is my favourite of all the seasons - can't wait

Bart: Cool...personalized plates! "Barclay"..."Barry"..."Bert"... "Bort"? Aw, come on. "Bort?"
Kid: Mommy, mommy! Buy me a license plate.
Mother: No. Come along, Bort.
Guy: Are you talking to me?
Mother: No, my son is also named Bort.
*Later*
Man 1: Mop and bucket man to the exit of the "Nauseator".
Man 2: We got another jumper on the roof of T. G. I. McScratchy's.
Man 3: We need more "Bort" license plates in the gift shop. I repeat, we are sold out of "Bort" license plates.

Narrator: Roger Meyers senior, the gentle genius behind Itchy and Scratchy, loved and cared about almost all the peoples of the world. And he, in turn, was beloved by the world, except in 1938 when he was criticized for his controversial cartoon, "Nazi Supermen Are Our Superiors."

If they're going to skimp on the commentaries I won't be getting anymore. The shows themselves are repeated enough as it is, the commentaries are basically the selling point for me.

They're on the 16th season this year. From what I read on another forum the only details that were released were of disc 1 which all contained commentary so it seems likely all the others would have them too.
