Simpsons Season 6 dvd box art changes

I'm in possession of it right now...and will likely be ordering the box. While the concept isn't too bad, the execution is quite chintzy. The plastic seems very thing and fragile and the actual DVDs just seem to be floating in there. It's a neat concept that just seems to have been done half-assed.

Count me in as anal-retentive.

i saw this thing at CC today, and it is a lot smaller than it looked in pictures. Its actually smaller (iirc) than the previous Simpson season boxes. Material did look kinda cheap though.

My Wife is picking it up for us to watch tonight (I converted her into a simpsons fan) but Im defanatly ordering the other case....

It would've been nice if they just had both cases available in stores. The replacement cases are already available and shipping soon, so they obviously anticipated this before the "backlash". A LOT of Simpsons fans are anal-retentive nerds (like me) who are just going to order it anyways.

Bought it today. The material was really cheap...almost fragile. The episodes were pretty underwhelming I have to say. I felt pretty much the same about Season 5. Looks like Season 4 in my mind still stands out as the best season with Season 3 right behind it. I'm not even sure I'm nabbing S7 now.

It's cheaper for Fox this way.

Hmm.. yeah, I wasn't that high on season 5. Season 2 was actually extremely memorable and has a quality no other season attained. Perfect mixture of story and comedy imo. 1 wasn't hitting the story marks as well, then season 2 really nailed it, and the show soon began leaning to comedy season by season it seems. 3 and 4 were still really good with some sweet episodes but 5 wasn't as good as I thought it would be. Comedy out of situation, or creating situations simply for comedy, always seems to bring it down a notch. :-/ Anyway, most excited about the Treehouse of horro in season 6. I remember it being really good. Need to wait till I get more money for this though. Probably will get it Sunday and send for the original box because I like free stuff.

Any idea what the old style cover for the new set looks like? Was there a picture before they changed it?

You guys are nuts. Season 1's good, Season 2 is better, Seasons 3-5 rock.

How can you not like Season 5!

The Be Sharps!

Cape Feare (And now for the final curtain... Kelsey rocks)

Bobo! Freaking Bobo!

Hey, it's the I-Didn't-Do-It guy!

Are you *really* the head of the Kwik-E-Mart? Really? You? -- Thank you, come again!

Deep Space Homer! Awe, they were just about to show a close-up of the rod!

Burns' Heir!

*watches Season 6*

I saw the box at the store today. I had assumed the case was metal, I was bumbed when I saw it was plastic :(

The replacement box is US/Canada only...fuckers! I knew this would happen. Looks like I'm stuck with the el-shitto box

Box is crap, but the season is really quite good. Come on, it opens with the fantastic "Bart of Darkness" and has some really good episodes in between. These are the episodes that were most prevalent in circulation when I first got hooked on the show, so they're the ones I remember most fondly. Hell, Sideshow Bob's return is absolutely fantastic, what with the water cooler running for governor and all that jazz.

Plus...Football in the fucking groin. Fantastic stuff.

Cool case if it had popcorn or candy in it. But if it's gonna sit on my dvd shelf with all the other seasons...... well shouldn't it look like them a bit?

I wonder how many of you are griping about having a dress code at work while bitching about a DVD case being different. :lol

Different, I could deal with.

Made out of plastic cheaper than the stuff they used to encase controllers and similar digital media devices so that nobody can ever get into them? I can't deal with that. I have no issue with the concepts of the heads, but they're cheap pieces of crap and are not suitable for storing DVDs. The aforementioned candy storage would indeed be a better fit.

For the people who ordered the replacement case:

This is it, folks. Fox TV UK have revealed the alternate Season 6 DVD packaging via a press release on their website, stating that this box will be the norm for buyers in the UK. The Homer's Head packaging is being labelled as a 'limited edition'. This is the same box that be sent to those in the USA who requested it. While it has still noticably veered away from the original couch designs you've come to expect, the same cardboard format will be used. The Homers Head packaging will be restricted to just a run of 50,000 in the UK and for those who are not "lucky" enough to snap this up will be able to pick up Season 6 in its original magnifying glass packaging.

On closer inspection of the alternate box, the cardboard frame will still contain a peephole which was usually occupied by the television screen. The shape of Homer's eye through the magnifying glass matches the inside packaging of the plastic Homer's head set.
It's not exactly like the old cases with the fold out discs. You basically just put the little folder-style disc holder that's inside the plastic head inside the new case.
