Just to remind many of you, Sin City is out on DVD and UMD as of today, Tuesday, August 16th. We've had many discussions of the film, books, and the whole universe here but I just wanted to remind you guys that the movie is actually out now.

For those of you shopping for the best price, Circuit City is selling it for $14.99 on both DVD and UMD through the end of the week.

I also believe that someone said Best Buy also has it for $14.99, and I know Target has it for $16.99.

Circuit City is also giving away a free lithogram set of several of the characters while supplies last when you buy the movie.

Now get out there and snag your copy! And mods, it be awful nice if someone could edit the title to "Sin City DVD: Out Now!" :D

14.99 also at walmart, got it at 12 last night

bumpity, and late to the party. picked up sin city a few hours back and watched it for the first time just now.

:O

awesome movie!

And the 9-minute Making of Feature on the DVD is actually pretty cool. It has definitely inspired me to pick up the "Special Edition" when that drops too.

Just picked my copy up at BB. Did anyone else get a free promotional comic book of sin city?

fucking bastards. thats where i got mine, and the dumb bitch that rang me up never said a word. i saw a stack of those on the register behind her too.

ahhh well. would have just went in the trash or junk drawer withing 10 minutes of getting home anyhow ;)

got finished watching this today. wow, what a great movie. the scenes were so vibrant, and I loved how the lighting changed to match the comic panels.

I was worried though as Michael Madsen's acting in the beginning was just horrible. someone told me it was intentional...was it? Other than that a great movie.

So what cover did everybody get? My mom bought me the Bruce Willis/Alba cover, my favorite story (I didn't even ask her to buy it for me :D ) .

They were out of Marv :( so I got the Dwight one. Not a big fan of Benecio del Toro and the Bruce Willis one was too predictable. I like Clive Owen from the Driver series at BMW.com so I picked his.

Marv N Goldie for me. I was going to get Dwight, but I can't stand the face that Rosario Dawson is making on the cover with Dwight.
That's exactly how I felt. They were out of Marv, so I got Willis/Alba. I love Jessica Alba, even though Brittney Murphy looks a lot hotter on the Jackie Boy cover. I got it at CC, and I got the lithographs, so it's like a got all the covers.

Some snarky employee or customer took it upon themselves to rearrange the whole end cap display at Sam's Club so that all the ends of the rows of DVDs had the Willis/Alba sleeve showing.

I wonder if watching this movie will help to cure lovesickness and pining away over a girl who moved out of state for a whole year? We shall find out.

Got the "ensemble" cover. I don't like any of the others. :P What a FUCK AWESOME movie. Can't wait for the special edition, can't wait for the adaptations of the other books...

Great movie, but the transfer was not perfect. Me want 1080p HiDef, just like it was shot.

having never seen the movie before buying, i got the willis/alba cover... now though, i wish i had gotten the marv cover. hes such a badass

I didn't notice that Powers Boothe was in this when I saw it in the theater. It just got that much better.

I just got the R3 special edition. It's a foldout case, postcards and a cool little notebook :D Not much of a special edition but it was worth it since it was cheaper than importing the R1 :p

Yeah, I saw Powers Boothe's name in the opening, but who is he? Which character does he play, and what other movies has he been in?

Did you guys watch the Making of Featurette on the DVD? The story about the opening with Josh Hartnett is great. I'll break it down.

Basically, Frank Miller kept repeatedly telling Robert Rodriguez no, he couldn't make Sin City a movie. It's his property, and it can only be fleshed out right in graphic novels. After bugging Miller for so long, he agreed to fly to Texas for a day, and see what they could work out. Miller said he expected to "Fill a coffee cup" as their accomplishment for the day on most movie sets, but that wasn't the case.

Robert Rodriguez just called Josh Hartnett up, and told him to get down there. Didn't even tell him it was for Sin City or anything. So with Frank Miller on scene, Robert and Josh Hartnett flipped open Sin City: Booze, Broads and Bullets, and filmed the entire opening scene for Sin City, which was originally intended to be "test footage". After this one day, Miller was convinced that Robert and himself could really get something going, and gave the Sin City movie a green light.

I can't get that hot nurse out of my head.

The one that is standing by the door while bruce willis is getting beaten

What's funny is the actual actress isn't really that hot. Its just the way she was made to look has her looking extremely sexy.

Even with all the violence I'd like to live in Sin City. :lol

got this dvd last week its awsome, any one knows when the sequal will be out?

and i also got kung fu hustle that movie rocks! there is a sequal on the way right?

I was at Sunrise Records today and saw they had Sin City drinking glasses for $6.99. One was a picture of Gail licking her lips and the other was that red promo shot of Marv walking with his head down. I picked up the Marv one since it was the last one, but I might go back and pick up a gail one to be a completionist. :D

I was tempted to pick up the DVD but they didn't have the cover I wanted. :(

Just saw this movie on Singapore Airlines (17 hour flight - my butt is numb!). It totally blew my mind. gonna watch it again on the way home (in Penang for Intel stuff)

Yesterday was a pretty long day at work, so last night I was just going to cook some dinner, watch a little TV, then head straight to bed. Right before I hit the sack, I said to myself, "You know, I haven't watched Sin City yet... maybe I'll just watch a few scenes." So I popped in the disc, cued up Marv's story, and started watching...

By 1am, I had watched the whole thing from beginning to end, and the "making of" short. :lol

So what did I do next?

...

I turned right back around and watched it AGAIN. I can't remember the last time I watched a movie twice back-to-back on DVD.

I watched The Hard Goodbye on UMD, and I loved it even more so than the DVD. Why? Well for one, it's in high-definition. And two, I used the surround sound ear buds, and I don't have surround sound hooked up to my DVD player. So it's not that the UMD is actually better than the DVD, just in my case.

Anyway, since this is for discussion of the Sin City DVD, I should mention that if Rodriguez and Miller really did shoot every single scene of the graphic novels, then Lucille will be in That Yellow Bastard (Bruce Willis and Jessica Alba's Story) in the "Director's Cut" of Sin City when it comes out, assumingly in December. She's in book. Miller said that there will be more of Carla in the new DVD, so I'm assuming that's what he's getting at.

Can't wait to see what Marv's mom looks like :lol

Was just watching the movie, and it looks like they did indeed shoot the scenes with Lucille and Hartigan together.
When Hartigan is walking to make his confession
, you can see Carla G's face JUST barely in the bottom right corner of the screen close to the camera.

The PSP screen is only 480X272p. With the right player and TV, the DVD is 720X480p.

lol, i watched it twice in the same day.... and then several hours later, at night, i started it a 3rd time.

crazy. haent watched a movie like that since i was a kid :P

Watched part of the film today. Managed to watch 2 of the 3 stories so far before I had to leave. I don't know what to think. The look is unique, highly stylised and captures that comic noir look perfectly. The monologue in a way proves how mostly unneeded it is in motion pictures, we don't really need such things to get the message across, but for the way this film was handled it's an aspect of it's uniqueness instead of pointlessness.

The film is violent and gruesome as hell too, if it weren't for it's stylized used of black and white and color it would be complete bloodbath.

Heh, my dad doesn't understand the film, still doesn't get why it's in black and white. My sister seems to really enjoy what little she saw of it.

In a way for me the grimness and violence of the film is kind of depressing. The film does give off how meshed up Sin City is, how hopeless and violent everything seems. Elijah Woods scenes, yikes, the way Kevin went.....yeesshh!! Such a far cry from Frodo.

I need to finish the movie tomorrow, but heard the final story didn't exactly feature an ending to lift the depressing mood just a bit.

You couldn't be more right on that one. Enjoy!
