Well, I caught up just in time for tomorrow's biggie, so I thought I'd throw up a thread in anticipation for the greatest show on television's Big Bang. I'll save spoiling anything for people who aren't caught up, but here's to hoping the show ends with the same sheen with which it began. Just a shame I don't have HBO and I have to wait a bit.

I wouldn't have any clue as how to answer that since I've enjoyed every season. The only low point I can even point to in particular would be Arthur's story arc, but I really enjoyed the last two seasons; S4 in particular picked itself up nicely. Depending on what you didn't like about S3 and S4, you may not like the final season.

Seasons 3 and 4 just didn't click with me. After the amazing S2 finale I did not expect the Lisa/Nate arc to feel like such a drag in S3 and to some extent S4. I despised Lisa and hated S3 because of her annoying character plus the writing just seemed to go a bit downhill after the S2 finale. S4 was better, but was nowhere near season 1 & 2's caliber IMO.

Anyone got any spoilers?

I've got someone who's being a bitch to me and she loves this show. I'm vindictive like that.

I heard that there is a 10 minute 'montage' set to some crazy music that was described as 'amazing' and 'electic'.

Can't fucking wait.

Just make shit up; the way the show goes, anything can happen. Or you can head over to HBO.com and check the SFU page -- there's an episode guide plus hints as to what happens in the series finale tomorrow night.

Thanks for the article, I don't follow the show however so I can't tell if there are any serious spoilers in there. It's a mean thing to do and I don't think I'll do it anymore. I'll be the bigger person for once I guess. That bitch.

I'd wish they'd tie up the lisa death loose end
What's to tie up? We know how she died, who killed her, and why he killed her. The only thing I could think of would be her family trying to take Mya from the Fishers now that Nate's dead but that won't happen. So what loose end are you talking about?

I'm not reading anything in this thread until I watch it tonight! I've been anticipating this the whole summer. I can't believe tonight's the night. I don't even know what to expect. I've been trying to figure out what's gonna happen on my own, but it's so hard to predict ANYTHING with this show.

Alan Ball wrote tonight's episode so I'm expecting an awesome story. Hopefully close to American Beauty caliber.

I'm tingling.

Yeah, what a great way to get closure on a fantastic show. This season was definitely the best since the first two.

the last 15 minutes was probably the best series finale ive ever seen.
there was no better way to end that show.

I have to admit, I never watched one complete episode. I mean I watched a few mins here, a few minutes there.... I basically knew much of the story lines because a friend of mine was a HUGE fan and she would talk about it every Monday...

Anyway, I happened to turn it on right before the end sequence, and I watched all 15mins of that ending with her driving on the open road and glimpsing into the future to see how every main character died... I thought the song that played was awesome, and like my buddy Robot said above, it was one of the best series finales I ever seen.

good stuff.

I never watched this show, but I've been hearing lots about it lately. What's the big attraction of this show? Is it just a drama, or is there more to it? Any shows similar to it? I might just rent the first season disc at BB and see for myself.

At 6:43pm on Monday, August 22, 2005, I just had a good, healthy cry after watching. To say that it is powerful is spot on. Outsiders don't understand--those who haven't seen the whole series from start to finish. You grow to love each of the characters, and you can't wait until the next episode. You may not like or agree with everything each character does, but like Cathy Bates' character says to Ruth, the best part of spying on someone is "getting to see their weird fucked up shit." The life of the viewer can seemingly never be as complicated and hectic as that of the view in which we are privy. Maybe I generalize in thinking of my own life and experience, but this series in many ways it validates my existence. There is so much hope and life in the end. Clair doesn’t know what it is that she wants or needs to do. Brenda is always fearful of her internal monolog, which is a dialog or voice of the deceased. Ruth just needs her family, and the family almost receives the blow of a partner wanting out. Even Nathanial is finally free and happy, only to have circumstance take his life once he’s decided what he thinks he really wants.

In Claire’s uncertain road, in a happy/sad moment, Nathanial tells Claire to not be afraid. He was afraid his whole life, he says, and "look where it got him." I and many of us out there are afraid of the unknown, of changing, of not knowing what to make of our existence, and of being scared of the changes and newness life brings us. If you haven’t felt these emotions, then you’re not human. There is something in this series for everyone.

Just got around to watching it (as I lack HBO, I had to, eh....wait), and as always Ball delivers. I actually didn't care for the montage at the end, as it felt a bit silly, but it didn't detract from things to be sure. The show really managed to reconnect a lot of the strong familial elements that made the show so endearing in the first place, and I'm glad to see it. I'm just hoping S5 comes out on DVD within the next year so I can have the entire set handy. This is, in my opinion, the finest show out there, and I'm going to miss it. Few shows challenged their audiences as much as SFU did, and I hope HBO can find other quality series to nurture with SFU and The Sopranos ending.

That said, I'm giddy for Ball's next feature films.

Sorry to drag this up again but that was amazing. There really are no words to describe the last 15 mins, I can't believe how strongly I felt over a TV show, but yeah, there were almost a few tears by the end of the montage. It will be missed, but I'm glad it ended on a high.

Such a good ending. I will miss this show.

I too thought seasons 3 and 4 were weak, but they totally redeemed it with the last. It was so strong for this period, capped by an appropriate and moving ending.

I'm really surprised by how many people liked that montage at the end. I didn't hate it, but I must be the only person that felt like it was unnecessary and kind of tacked on. Odd.

Sorry to drudge up this topic, but I was just able to sit down and watch the entire last season of 6FU this weekend on HBOonDemand. Watched the last half of the season last night, and OMG, I was crying like a little girl by the end of the finale. The montage was amazing, and while there were a few shots of Claire driving that I thought looked too much like a car commercial, the overall power of the montage just floored me.

The ONLY way I could have thought to improve it, was to build on the scene where Ruth dies. Rush sees Nathaniel and Nate before she dies, I think as each member of the family died they should have seen everyone who'd gone before - sort of beckoning them on, and then when Claire dies she sees all the rest of the cast. I can't decide if that would have been too cliched or not. I wouldn't know until I see it though.

In any case, this is the first series finale since the end of Star Trek: TNG that I actually cried over. I can't believe this show is over (even though my lack of HBO made it hard to catch it most of the time). Such great television - and I'm so glad the payoff I've been waiting for finally came around - the reconciliation of Ruth and Brenda, that really was important for me to see.

what is there to be surprised about? the entire show is about death, what better way to end a show like that than to show how each of the main characters dies. it wouldve been way too easy and cliche to just say "oh look claire goes to new york and the rest of the fishers are fine and dandy too!" the montage was such a perfect way to wrap up this series. it really makes you stop and think about your own mortality as well. there is no "happily ever after".. there is happyness, sadness, drama, bullshit then death so make the most out of your life while you are here.

From the SFU newsletter:
The favorite episode polling has closed. No re-count is necessary. The episode that received the most votes will be aired on HBO 2 on Tuesday, September 6th, 2005 at 10:30 PM ET! Don't miss an exlusive Alan Ball interview introducing the episode and explaining why it meant so much to him!
I wonder which episode it will be.
