So equally if they had a paint that was dark green and called it leaf colour, people should be outraged because of the scientific inaccuracy.
Fucking retarded child.

Yeah, because this is the exact same, and we can apply the same principle of leaf colour to the colour of people's skin, due to the fact that people don't care about others' skin colour like a colour of a leaf...oh wait a minute, yes they do!

I think it's a bit too extreme to call this kid a fucking retard too, especially when your analogy isn't exactly top of the line...

People calling everything under the sun racist are worse than racism itself.

what

"By renaming beige to skin colour they show that there is a whiteness norm in society," Thyra,14, told the Aftonbladet newspaper.

Isnt america about 80% white? Wouldn't that kinda make whiteness normal or at least default colour?

Political correctness scares me unlike anything else.

This is an example of actual, subtle racism of the sort that I-hate-political-correctness-GAF cannot comprehend.

Not all racism is intentional, hostile, hateful, or extreme. Subtle implications that one race is the default and everyone else is an "other" is exactly the kind of racism that needs to be called out. Everyone knows the Ku Klux Klan is shitty, but this subtle stuff potentially affects more people and is more likely to be minimized in conversations about racism.

The solution is also incredibly easy.

A lot of people don't realize that it's possible to be accidentally racist and not hate Black people.

It should be changed, but being made to feel "sick" and express shock and outrage at something like this makes you roll your eyes a bit.

Eh, just change the damn name of it. Logically speaking, its not even correct.

If logically it is incorrect then how do you explain the names of any color at all?

Skin is just as good of a name of a color as blue or red

Wouldn't that make it "beigeness" being the default colour?

I remember reading a Japanese sensitivity training manual that suggested people use 桃色 instead of 肌色 to refer to that color. I don't remember the name of the manual/book, it's been over 8 years. This isn't new or exclusively occidental.

my car is white

am i racist

I dunno do you refer to your car as "The color of The Aryan Race Who Are The Only True Humans, And My Tires Are Black To Represent The Intellect Of The White Man Crushing The Weight Of All Non-Whites"? If so you might be

Yeah, exactly. Naming a beigeish colour as 'skin colour' is kind of ignorant to people whose skin isn't that colour.

Just one small example of the sort of racial insensitivity that still exists in the West today.

Let's leave this paint called skin and make a browner one called melanin. Then you can mix them and get darker skin based off of how much melanin you have.

What is the end goal? To change the name because its racist? Or to sue for an undisclosed amount of money?

read the article, they're not suing anyone, they just reported the name to a government agency which deals with equality her dad even says he doesn't think they did it deliberately

I don't think she was over reacting.

Having beige labelled as skin colour obvious alienates anyone with a darker shade of skin, as it implies that beige (aka white) is the only colour of skin.

The paint company can easily rectify this by naming the paint to 'Normal skin colour'.

Way too much time on his hands, give him some extra homework.

what are you getting at here, please elaborate for us.

Just say what you mean.

The Swedish are so progressive it borders on parody. They show the entire world that they're progressive and open minded by banning or changing anything that might cause a slight offense no matter how insignificant it actually is.
