Sky High getting good reviews

Its got a population of generic Superheroes.
Its by Disney.
Its in a white suburban setting.
Dumbass kid can't use powers properly.
Parents are famous superheroes.
Kids save the day.
Stupid villans.
BS ending.

This is Incredibles 2 with people instead of CG.

It ended with then defeating the superrobot. I'm fine with that. And then it ended again with the kidnapping. 2 climaxes is BS. Its just a stupid way to clean up all the loose ends and open it up for a sequel. Did the baby have any purpose but to extend the story for 10 minutes?

As for the villans. The guards were typical dumbasses same with stock robot with lame weakness. If you didn't see the main bad guy coming from 2 miles away . . .

What was he some dork that didn't get to be a sidekick. Why would you hold a vendetta like that? You don't get what you want so you create evil and artificially become thehero. That's got to be the stupidest villan. I understand robbing banks and world domination, but pretending to save the world for fame and glory.

That would be like a kid wanting to be a cop or a soldier and when they told him he was not a cop/soldier material he would grow up and be a pseudo vigilante saving people from his own terrorism. Or a kid wanting to be an athlete and getting cut from the team. Then he sabotages the team in an attempt to win the big game.

When they defeated the robot, there was still a loose end -- what happened to Syndrome? Can't leave a loose end like that lying around. The Incredibles was a fantastic movie -- if you don't see that, you're not only in a very small minority, you're also way, WAY too jaded.

2 climaxes is BS :lol Ok. And yes, they had to take care of Syndrome and the baby was a subplot the entire movie. They planned it from the start with "the baby doesn't have superpowers". The guards are dumbasses? :lol Of course they are, they played on the logic of superhero cliches. The villain was villainous, guards dumb, and there was monologuing.

And you hold it against The Incredibles because they didn't give an ultra-generic cliche plot of robbing a bank as the main storyline? The beginning hit those marks, with the train and guy jumping out the window. All the normal stuff for a bizarre and dangerous villain plotline later on. And yeah, the main villain's motives were flawed. He was a kid doing it for all the wrong reasons, running the risk of being a villain and eventually is one. That's not stupid, it's different and a little understandable.

Also, the last thing on Pixar's mind is a sequel if you know anything about Pixar. And I'd be willing to bet Brad Bird isn't going to do a sequel. He has stated he doesn't want one. The very last scene was just a joke and homage to a Fantastic Four issue, as was the baby, having completed the 4 powers of the Fantastic Four. As far as Sky High, I wouldn't expect 1/4 of The Incredibles' genius.

Also, these kind of threads are absolutely worthless. I remember there was a "THE ISLAND IS GETTING GOOD REVIEWS OMGWTF" thread...and now it's at 41% at RT. :P

I never said I didn't like the movie, its a good movie with great CG and effects, but some of its problems lie in the villans and the ending.

Its far from a perfect movie. And rottentomatoes gives a ripe tomato if you give it 2/4 stars so don't be too skewed with that site. Its also odd that parents didn't buy the DVD as well as it should have? Maybe there is a large minority out there.

I'll dodge the villlan/ending comparison cuz I didn't see FF4, but the only similarity was stretch girl and reed richards and it was a family foursome (But SamJack kinda made Incredibles 5 and the FF4 were not all family).

Well, at RT I usually only pay attention to the average ratings for that very reason. 8.2/10 out of 207 reviews, not bad.
 
I just saw this.


Thought it was pretty good. Especially as far as the whole superhero story through a teen comedy filter. Some of the effects shots were ropey... but I'd imagine they didn't have a very steep budget(I could be wrong), and in the end, the powers weren't really the point anyway. It did a good job of paying homage to superhero conventions, while at its heart remaining an allegory. Superheroes work best as allegories, in that respect this was a pretty good movie.

All in all it's probably about as close as we'll ever get to this:

The site explains it like this:

For other critics, 2.5 stars can either be positive or negative. Even though Eric Lurio uses a 5 star system, his grading is very relaxed. So, 2 stars can be positive.

So basically, some critics grade more easily than others.
