the screen isn't meant to be grainy - it's just like 3 cms high in reality. for comparisons's sake a goldeneye ds screen on the right. source : gamepro germany

Looks better than the Ngage version. It will score less than the Ngage version for having a radar on the second screen. :lol

It's true...

Asphalt: Urban GT (Mobile) 81.0%
Asphalt: Urban GT (N-Gage) 76.8%
Asphalt: Urban GT (Nintendo DS) 61.4%

...the DS release spanks the others, yet it rates way lower. :/

Expectations...

Keitai games aren't exactly held to the same standard as those released on (near) dedicated gaming machines. Imagine the scores an XBOX version would receive, for example...

Well, N-Gage would be a dedicated game machine (which is the platform Asphalt was built around). In fact, it shares some technology with DS... so why did an inferior version of the game score generally 15 points higher? I'd expect an Xbox version to score fairly, if it featured proportional upscaling as the DS version has. Asphalt at it's core actually isn't a "bad" game, despite the low DS scores.

Seems to me that N-Gage owners are so desperate to get new games that anything half decent gets a nice push from it's dedicated media. Meanwhile, everything on DS so far gets dissected under a microscope by the mainstream press... expect Pandora Tomorrow to be highly rated on N-gage while the DS release gets medicore scores at best. Sure, that's in part an issue of expectation... but the end result will still mean a better version of the game is going to get lower scores.

Looks decent

i'm assuming there's 23 bullets loaded (a pistol can hold that much?), and 0 bullets in reserve. if that's the case, kinda stupid since you have to look at two spots just to see your total ammunition. oh teh innovation

I think it's because of who they are compared against.

N-Gage version of a game is usually vastly superior to any other mobile version.
DS version of a game is usually vastly inferior to a (potential) PSP version.

This is traditional games are not favorable to the reputation of DS, they underline the lack of processing power. Instead, games like Yoshi's Touch & Go, Nintendogs, Electroplankton, Zoo Keeper, Meteos, Wario Ware Touched etc. work like a charm on DS and won't get compared to PSP.

I agree with you, it's just unfortunate that DS games are held to an unfairly high standard rather than what the machine itself is capable of. N-Gage and DS are actually far more directly comparable tech wise, yet the media holds every DS racer or sports game up to Ridge Racers and THUG2R while N-Gage games get a clean pass as being "great for N-Gage".
