This is awful. Dude was an incredible drummer, and from what I've heard, he was an incredibly nice person who was always humble and grateful to his fans. RIP.

This one hurts. I looked up to this man’s playing since 2000 very innovative drummer & awesome dude.

Got to see him with Slipknot twice sad his condition basically ended his career along with other things.

He’ll be missed.

Passed in his sleep his family said. Wonder if he relapsed from the disease and killed himself.

Amazing drummer, underrated guitarist. Always thought he might of gone back to Slipknot at some point.

If there's anything after life, he'll be slaying it with #2 right now.

Fuck. That’s horrible.

Dude was a great drummer. Look up Download 2004. He played with Metallica after Ulrich got sick, and with no rehearsal played better than Ulrich ever did.

Him and Dave absolutely slayed that show watching Joey play with his childhood favorite bands legendary he’s also played with Rob Zombie, Korn, System Of A Down was a joy to be around.

Slipknot always have a tragedy hanging over their upcoming records. I guess with so many members, you are open to more possibilities when it comes to stuff like this.
first there was Paul, then Clown’s daughter passed away right as WANYK was releasing a couple years ago, now Joey right before this one.

I hope they find strength through one another.

and they will pull all the stops for Joey. The album will be dedicated to him, of course, and they are going to lavish him with the credit he deserves.
I don’t like to comment on the “break up” because I wasn’t there, so I don’t mean to imply anything about that, I just know this won’t be swept under the rug by any stretch.

As a drummer he is the reason I use Pearl drumkits and focused on my toms and off timing but within 4/4 grooves. Such an innovator and really broke open what you could do in metal music on drums (before it was mostly blast beats and double bass all day).

RIP Joey.

motherfucker sure was fast

Perfect example right out of the gate.

Watch his fills and rolls... metal drummers just didn't incorporate toms and other "lesser" cymbals the way he did. So innovative.

They love Joey and still do, but he (from what I can tell as a passive fan) seemed to go downhill hard with drugs after Paul Gray died. Paul dying really fucked them up on a Metallica-level.

*also as another posted mentioned... he seemed to have some sort of degenerative condition that affected his playing... but no one ever elaborated on it and no one seems to know what it was

The interesting is that you can apparently get that disease from doing too much coke. I’m no medical expert but that’s what I’ve read. So it’s a blurry line when it comes to the true root cause of him being kicked out.
