Slow torrents?

Since BitTorrents have become popular, I rarely have downloads that go faster than 20-30kbps. This doesn't seem normal. Does the program you use make any difference?

Could be your ISP is throttling your connection. Try using different ports.
Could also be that the place you're downloading from is mostly leeches.

I don't think so. Are you behind a router, and if so, have you forwarded the appropriate ports?

Otherwise, if you used to get higher speeds, I suggest changing the port your bittorent client uses, as your ISP may be limiting the speed on certain ports. Select a port that's not usually used by P2P programs, something high like in the 50000's.

Trying out the pages suggestion.

Changing the port to 16881's didn't increase the speed at all. In fact it started going down. And no, I'm not on a lan or router. Just normal cable internet.
I'll keep trying.

some very large torrents take a long time to get to full speed as it takes some time to get enough connections to get the average speed.

Sucks for you. I average around 700-800kbps on subscribe to sites :D
