Sly 3 goes 3D (glasses)

sounds like a nifty idea, but my eyes hurt after looking at just that picture with glasses. If this is what Nintendo is planning, then count me out.

do you really think Nintendo is dumb enough to hinge its future mainstream market success on 3D glasses? ;)

I remember when i was younger, i used the 3d glasses the came with one of my transformers video, and played alot of games wearing them, i distinctly remember playing Sonic and Knuckles with them. I had 3d gaming years before the rest of you suckers.

The whole 3d idea sounds pretty stupid, but it hasnt really been used in awhile it'll be nice to see how it turns out, although it probably wont be very good. Won't matter though, sounds like its only a small part of the game anyway, its not too intrusive, and its just a stupid pair of glasses that'll obviously come free with the game, i really doubt it'll make or break Sly 3 in any way whatsoever.

THIS BLOWS! Sony has effectively prevented me from playing Sly 3...And I'm a HUGE Sly 2 fan. Not because it's a dumb concept but because...Due to being blind in my right eye, 3D glasses do not work for me! I've been robbed by Sony! They WILL PAY!

It sounds interesting because Sony is doing it. If this were a Nintendo game I would point at it and laugh and create a shit storm.

This seems...like an old gen gimmick. Ah well.

Here's my deeper complaint (always guaranteed to make friends!).....

The Sly Cooper series is mediocre. GAF hopelessly (and a few reviewers) overrate it. It's not up to par with their other platformers, but since it's a cute, thieving raccoon instead of a ...whatever the fuck Jak or Ratchet are...it gets inordinate love.

Good point.

I hope that for people in situations such as yours, they make the 3D glasses optional (rather than required) in the areas of the game that would use them. The preview said that some objects would require the use of the glasses. Perhaps they can implement an alternate method of obtaining those objects, possibly by using some in-game gadget that you can buy/earn later in the game.

You should contact Sony and/or Sucker Punch about this. I'm being serious here. It would limit the audience if this turned out to hinder the enjoyment for people who are in a situation like yours.

I'm also blind in my right eye, I've been bitching about 3D rumours for weeks now

IF the make 3D games have it like Rad Racer where you can turn the red and blue blur shit off

I'm a little disappointed, honestly...Rad Racer was enough to convince me that 3D glasses add nothing to gaming, not with that level of technology. I'm sure improvements have been made since then, but just wearing the glasses in itself is annoying. It could be enjoyable in a cheesy way if used in small doses, I guess.
Rad Racer also convinced me that all racing games must use low-resolution 4 color sprites.

My only experience with Sly was the demo for the original which I was awful at, but I'd love to check this out. Anaglyph whore, and I haven't seen many attempts at real-time 3D applications.

*grabs red/blue glasses*
That screen shot does look pretty nice.

Well people who wear glasses can forget about enjoying this game..oh wait it is a Sly game...never mind.
Ehh, it doesn't prevent us from using it, though most 3D glasses are a tougher fit certainly. I really want to go total nerd and get some clip on flippable red/blue lenses. :D

Somewhat related: did I ever post at any incarnation of GAF my mockup images of how emulators could use varying levels of fore- and background in old games to create a stereoscopic or anaglyph image with depth?

Call me crazy, but I think its an excellent idea, and I would be all over it it really was Nintendo's Revolution. Think about it. Sure it looks tacky and lame, but if you really are the hardcore gamers you make yourselves out to be, you'd see that this could potentially add tons of potential to gameplay.

The whole problem with 3D third person games since the 32/64 bit era has been depth perception. Over the years, developers have created graphical excuses to aid the player to accurately move their avatar around a 3d world without depth. Little circular shadows under the characters being the most prominant one in that generation. Even now, 3d platforming is altogether impossible without some major help from the game camera.

I think that while 3d is pretty tacky when applied to live action movies, it has HUGE potential in an interactive environment.

If it's just an option to be turned on and off it's cool. I'll try it.
I'm still playing Rad Racer even today.... but without the glasses!!!
