Small annoying computer problem....

I asked about this in the Battlefield 2 thread awhile ago, but nobody responded.

I tried to download the Battlefield 2 demo awhile back, and on a few occasions I somehow downloaded completely useless 0 byte files. They have the same name as the demo I was trying to download, but are obviously not the demo. When I try to delete them, it says it can't because they are in use. It says it is being used by another person or program. I have no idea how to fix this and get these off my computer.

I suspect I may be able to do it in safe mode, but I don't know how to get to safe mode in XP.

Any help?

Thanks in advance.

Even after a rebbot, it won't let you delete the file? That's kerazy..... You could pull up task manage and see which thread is "using" the file, but really, reboot should have done the job.

Safe mode is what I'd try next (F8 during reboot).

How do I do that, the task manage thing?

fart

Savant
when nt loader is running hit F8 or whatever key it is the screen says to hit then start with minimal loading (safe mode)

also this is kind of odd behavior. run a virus scan and a dskchk

Fuzzy

I would bang a hot farmer!
That sometimes happens to me and the only way I can delete it (before trying safe mode) is from the command prompt.

Sorry, that's what I meant. It doesn't show up in there, does that mean I should go ahead and try safe mode?

HOLY CRAP! Yeah, it's time for safe mode..... definitely update that anti-V too.

Safe mode wouldn't do it. I was gonna try moveonboot, but should I run a virus scan first? Or should I try move on boot first and then run a virus scan overnight? Anti virus should be up to date, btw (norton).

I'm curious of this too, as I feel like I'm overlooking something.

To be clear...the exact story of what happened, was that I tried to download the battlefield 2 demo from filefront (I think it was there), and I got a 0kb file. I did that twice. I tried to delete it, but it said a program was using it...didn't specify what program that was. I just looked for the file "battlefield2demo.exe" in the processes, and didn't see it. Is there something else I should look for?

MoveonBoot seemed to work. I'll run a virus scan now, thanks guys.
