I haven't seen the episode yet, but Myztplk (spelling :p) has been a recurring villain in the comic, cartoons, and live action Superman shows, so he's not just Freak of the Week material.

Dammit, I hate this stupid Daylight Savings Time crap. I remembered to set the VCR to record it, but unfortunately the VCR's clock was an hour ahead.

Yeah, I was like "AWSOME!" when I saw it, but then I remembered he's nothing like him (though I only remember the cartoon version).

WTF is with the next episode??!

*barfing through my nose*

Simple hack thought process - "Everyone loved it when Lana went all slutty that one episode! We got good ratings! Lets do it to all three girls for TRIPLE THE RATINGS!!"

lacks enthusiasm.
I'm not likin that look Lex had at the end. It seems like next week's episode won't do anything to elaborate on that either.

Gotta love those pointless cliffhangers. Like last years.

"OH MY GOD MY DAD IS DEAD!!"
(next episode)
"OH MY GOD MY DAD IS FINE!!"

the old spice placement was HORRIBLE.

the scene at the end was priceless.. my wife was like "what is he gonna do" and jokingly I said "oh, come on... he can fix everything before the pass is caught.."

BOOYAH!!!

anyway, great episode, awesome take on Myztplk, sucks to see Lex go bad but we knew it had to happen sooner or later.. and I really don't think this will end up being a misunderstanding.. whoever it was here that said within the past few weeks that this is shaping up to be the best season yet looks to be right..

Hah, yeah, there were three distinct Old Spice product placements in the show, once when Clark opens his locker and a bar is there clear as day (I swear you can almost see it sparkle and make a 'ding!' noise), then there's the big 'Old Spice' banner above the stadium entrance AND the announcer for the game even mentions 'this game has been sponsored by etc, etc...Old Spice!'. And ALL of them were within like 60 seconds. Geez, they must've funded the entire episode.

That aside, I think it was pretty good as Smallville goes - we got alot of Chloe screen time, very little Lana screen time, a decent enough villain, Clark learning more about who he will become as a man...or shall I say Superman (hur hur), and Lex grows increasingly more evil. What's not to like? Next week's episode looks like Charmed is starting to influence the show - here's hoping it's not as god-awful as it looks like it's going to be. If nothing else, I guess it'll be some Lana fan service.

Anybody catch the <sarcasm>subtle</sarcasm> product placement for Old Spice?

And Lex had an Xbox on his desk (that WAS subtle though, the angle was weird but you could make out the shape on the top of the Xbox clearly).

Edit: Heh Ted, we had the exact same thoughts on the next episode. I immediately thought of Charmed when I saw the previews 3 girls, dressed up like dominatrix... I've lost count how many times Charmed has done that. Although, I don't mind some fan service.

This episode was ok, but it got stupider by the minute

Chloe: "His power comes from his brainwaves being tied to locus. See when locus swarm, they emit a frequency to keep from running into each other. So if we can harness that locus frequency we can stop him for good!"

Clark: "Of course! It's so simple!"

LA-LA-LA, I can't hear you!! You kind of have to just tune Smallville out when it goes into its Scooby-Doo like descriptions on the cause of the episode's conflict, some of 'em can be pretty goofy. Still, the majority of the episode was good...

One thing I completely forgot to mention, did anyone else catch where Chloe kinda of hinted at Clark's apparent 'invulnerability', as though she's fricken' finally getting that he's something more than he claims. It was towards the end of the episode and the line was something like "well everyone has their weaknesses...well, everyone except for you" then she sort of gave him a knowing look, as per the caps below...

Clark just sort of gave the usual 'oh shit' look. Granted, they'll probably dismiss all of this in the next episode or with some convenient case of Kryptonite-invoked amnesia, but it makes sense that Chloe would potentially fill the buddy-in-the-know niche that the now departed Pete filled. Poor token black guy, show never gave him a chance...

That's not pie, it's some new crazy-ass Denny's breakfast concoction. And yes, you DO want some. :D

What the hell is Charisma Carpenter doing working at Denny's?

(I know it's not her but the resemblance is uncanny)

3 things spring to mind from this episode...bare in mind i still really enjoyed the ep.

1. WTF i didnt think Clark could run so fast that no one even moved an inch in that scene while he did his thing, i thought he should have thrown the game, thus proving that he understands his responsibilities.

2. What a cheating fuck! does he not understand that he cant 'turn off' his powers, just because he lets them tackle him once in a while he thinks he's normal? He throws inch perfect 60 yard passes time and time again and doesnt even stop to think "hmmm, is this really fair" and now he's gonna take a football schloarship away from some kid that actually earned it.

3. "i just lied and said it came back clean" erm, dont you need a lab to do drug tests? or do high school coaches just jump in the chem lab and instantly do all the tests themselves.

What ghost said, plus - I call bullshit on Lex. There's been nor eal character development in terms of him going from good to evil - okay sure, there'c certainly motive enough (Clark being a complete cunt for the last 4 seasons, accusing/blaming him/taking advantage of him etc etc), but this is the first time we've really seen him start responding negatively. It should be a gradual change, not this complete 180 bullshit. And the way Lex has acted for the whole series renders any motive he had redundant because it gave the viewer the impression that he wasn't particuarly resentful of constantly being fucked by everyone on the show.

I still liked it.

I agree, the change lacked any real gradation. I'm thinking it has to do with Lex's obviously growing interest in Lana. He saw an opportunity to screw over her present play-thang and took it, and is now acting really defensive because he doesn't want Clark to try and hone in on her again. Of course that's just my theory. Either way, there's no excusing such a sudden dramatic shift.

And Clark was playing a GCN when he took his parents credit card and bought a bunch of stuff a couple of seasons ago (red kryptonite episode IIRC). So according to Smallville...

GCN = good
Xbox = bad...? :D

I "think" the change in lex will be played something like this. Lex said he knocked it off, said he stopped spying on clark, etc.. he is hornswaggling clark AND we the viewers. IF/when lex goes all out evil, it will be like "oh, btw, I've been an asshole this entire time and you just didn't know it."

at least that's the vibe I got where they showed floor 33.1(?) but didn't show us what was inside.

as for clark running faster than everyone else even moving, this has been touched on many times in the comic book. the only person faster than clark is flash who can vibrate his molecules through solid matter and even vibrate his way through time and dimensions..

so yeah, clark is really fast (though not as fast as flash).
