Big Boss.

For me it's never a question of deserving. When a character looks/plays good in Smash Bros., it's OK by my book. I wouldn't be against even Sony exclusives like Jak and Ratchet if that was even possible.

So... They're not interested.
They know MGS doesn't sell on Nintendo, hence they're not interested in having it.
Then I think we can all count ourselves lucky you're not in charge of Smash lol

I fully expect to see at least one character in the new Smash where most people will exclaim, "WHY THE F IS THIS CHARACTER HERE!?"

To which I I will embrace this character. :)

The failure of Pac-Man VS. and all the GBA-GCN link stuff should have been a big warning flag to Nintendo not to try any of this "second screen" bullcrap again, and yet here we are...

So if something doesn't work the first time then your logic is to never try it again?

I can see Namco requesting someone like Heihachi and then Sakurai going to Miyamoto like "fuck these fighting game characters" and Miyamoto being like "well... you could ask for pac..."

DS and 3DS are double screen gameplay. Tablets and mobiles have grow as the "second screen" experience along with your TV... GBA-GC had another problems, but gameplay experiences are worth it.

i really cant jmagine another 3rd party better fitting smash bros then the current ones . and no lol rkdley :(

They are a few. Travis Touchdown is the obvious one though it will never happen considering the No More Heroes series strong connection with Wii. Bayonetta would be another one. Neither are iconic enough to match the three already announced characters.

Snake got a place because he was on NES and GCN. That hasn't changed. He still deserves a place.

Those were ports and remakes (Metal Gear came out on MSX first). It's almost like Big Daddy in PSABR. He doesn't have a strong Nintendo connection. Now a Castlevania rep like Simon Belmont would fit this game.

It's a leak!

We already had that with Wii Fit Trainer.

Custom Haruka skin for Wii fit trainer would be great :P But yeah except for the ds exclusive one Nintendo did not get any Im@s so i would not be expecting her but a man can dream.

There's no MGS games on the WiiU is there? Wait, are there any Pac-man games on with WiiU? They need to port Pac-man Battle Royal over from the arcades. That game was fun yo!

not really sure he ever deserved a Smash spot since those games are more popular on non-Nintendo platforms not saying Nintendo never had ports but just saying the mind-share from that IP is pretty much a Playstation brand

Nobody cares if he "deserved" the spot or not, we just want him back.

Which reminds me, Pac-Man Vs. needs a Wii U port.

Pac Man Vs should be in every platform, played this game once and it was AWESOME, can't believe most people are compltely ignorant of this Masterpiece.

But yeah in Wii U makes even more sense.

What makes no sense is Namco.

I honestly assumed some key staff of Namco would of pushed on the idea of Pacman being a fighter. Whilst chuckling.
Surprising to hear Miyamoto requested it, though.

It's not surprising at all. It's no secret that Miyamoto adores Pac-man.

Based Miyamoto. Pac-Man in Smash fighting Mario and Sonic the hypest shit ever.

Mega Man's not even close in terms of pop-cultural osmosis.

Really good to see the that Pac-man has been more accepted after the trailer reveal. It's probably because his looks and a lot of his moves pay homage to the classic-style Pac-man and other Namco classics.

Simon's Belmont is really the only 3rd party character they need. moveset, stages, assist trophies, and music pretty much write themselves and he's a far bigger piece of Nintendo's heritage than Snake or Pac-Man.

I don't know. Final Fantasy (pre-VII), Dragon Quest both have lineage with Nintendo. Also for more modern third party reps there's Phoenix Wright (whose only non-Nintendo appearances are UMvC3 and the iOS ports of the AA games) and Professor Layton (has he ever appeared on a non-Nintendo platform?).

I'm constantly shocked to learn how much autonomy Miyamoto and Iwata give Sakurai when it comes to SSB. I mean, Miyamoto asking him for permission on something? In a way that's pretty badass.

"How to give the character their own individuality as a fighter and how they'll move. Should the game system maintain a consistent form or not. What other fighters are there and how will the new character differ in strategy? Does the new idea fit with the original game? Most importantly, is it entertaining?"

Ganon says hi....twice.
