That's a good point, but I think the label "social experiment" fits here. What's worse, the fact that this man raised $430 to buy a brand new system only to quickly destroy it, or the fact that many people were willing to toss a few dollars his way for him to accomplish this? It's like a carnival freak show--the person running the show might be greedy and exploiting unfortunate people for his personal gain, but at the same time he's evidently got customers willing to pay for tickets to see such exploitation.
I totally agree, it would be better for video game fans to donate their money to some charity like Child's Play, so that it could accomplish something beneficial for society. At the same time, people are free to do whatever they want with their money, so if seeing video game systems being demolished is what gives them their kicks, then so be it.
