So many people are afraid of snakes yet no one has been able to capitalize on that fear to make a damn good scary snake movie. Sharks have JAWS, spiders have ARACHNOPHOBIA, heck dogs even have CUJO. Poor snakes are left with ANACONDA or even worse ANACONDAS. Well I'm sorry but CGI snakes barfing up the corpse of Jon Voight just ain't putting shivers up my spine like a snake movie should. Hopefully director David R. Ellis (FINAL DESTINATION 2, CELLULAR) can change that. JoBlo.com has learned that Ellis has replaced Ronny Yu as director of New Line's SNAKES ON A PLANE. I always thought that had the possibility to be a sweet ass film but was sunk almost immediately but its title, which sounded like a bad USA Network movie. Lucky for me cause I can also report that New Line is ditching the ...ON A PLANE moniker and going with something a little more fitting. The script is currently being rewritten to pump up the scares and make it a little more intense than the version that currently existed. I was always fond of the word Ellis did on FINAL DESTINATION 2, a movie that really didn't have to be made. But Ellis somehow managed to make that throwaway sequel a lot of fun and just as good as the original. My wife still cringes when she has to use the garbage disposal. I haven't yet seen CELLULAR but I'm hopeful he can bring snakes their long awaited due on this film...
