In certain limited situations, yes. Tossing them down into a room with soldiers or black ops hiding will at the very least drive them out of cover, and if you throw enough of them they can kill two or three enemies.

The trouble is that since they can be shot, throwing just one or two is usually wasted, you have an ammo limit of 15, and they are the rarest ammo in the game.

They were useful in HL Deathmatch... if someone was in a room below you, I would toss like 10 of them into the room, then while he was trying to fight them off, you run in for an easy kill.

Ya that's where they were the coolest. Hearing tons of them exploding and snarking around was terrifying at times.

You could use them to stand on and get over barriers and such. People use them to do speed runs in HL.

I thought snarks was slang for the land shark cannon in armed and dangerous... I know it's not an FPS but that is the coolest weapon I've ever used. The Magnetic gun thing in Half Life 2 will likely take over in that category.
