Every type of portable SNES I've seen has a fair amount of complaints, but this one seems like the best. Not sure if this is the newest version, though. I imagine not.

My sister and her husband had gotten me the Yobo FC-16 Go for Christmas a couple of years ago. It's pretty decent, although a bit bulky. Has external controllers and the option to connect it to a television as well, which is nice for some versatility. There are also apparently two separate models of it, since the one I have has a SNES-like D-pad, which I much prefer of course, whereas there are also pictures of models of it with a PS1-like 4-separate-buttons D-pad.
But, as I said, it works fine, does what it's supposed to, and it's a pretty nifty thing to have around. Not sure how the other options are out there though, since that's the only one I've tried.
I've played around with this model. It's pretty decent but I was wondering if there are better ones.
I'll keep a watch on it.

Yeah, I've never played one, but it looks the best out of all the portable systems like this. The V2 apparently can play Mario RPG (via a swap trick) unlike the first. I assume since that listing doesn't say which version it is, it's the first.

Something showed up this morning! At the front door was a very short and old delivery man who was definitely having problems with this box. It must have weighed at least 40lbs!

This beast was hiding under all of that newspaper. It's a Super Famicom Box!
It could use some touching up, but it's otherwise in incredible shape considering these things usually come extremely beaten up.
The system doesn't take regular SFC carts – instead, it takes these huge proprietary carts which come with 2 - 3 full games and can only be accessed by unlocking the system.
This one has 2 cartridges. The first one has Super Mario Kart, Super Mario Collection (All Stars), and Starfox, while the other has Super Donkey Kong (Country) and Super Tetris 2. You can probably write to these cartridges with the right equipment, but I wouldn't know where to start and I don't want to damage anything. Of note, no cartridges have a battery – save data is stored on the hardware!
The 2 controllers that come with it seem to be regular SFC controllers, but these ones seem to have cables the length of SNES controllers, as they stretch pretty far. They're plugged into the box so they can't be detached, and sit in this deep alcove opposite of the internal cartridge bay.
I don't actually have any keys to open it up or toggle the mode, so if anybody knows of where to get them or can copy one somehow, I'd really appreciate a PM. I'd love to open this up and show you guys the guts.
I didn't take a photo of the back, but it's really nice – instead of using an RF cable or one of those cables that splits into A/V, it has 4 composite ports (including one for mono). It's also got two power outputs and ANT IN/OUT ports.
Over all, this is a gorgeous system that should be in any SNES enthusiast's collection. It's much harder to come by than other SNES hardware/software, weighs a ton, and is as big as an AV receiver, but it's worth it for its uniqueness and easy access to 5 brilliant games.
If anybody wants any close-up shots or anything, just let me know and I'll be happy to take some.

It wasn't used in stores – those were just regular consoles housed in a display cabinet. This can be hooked up to be coin operated (a coin operated SFC!), so it could have been used in hotels, on cruise ships/ferries, or other places like that.

I played this model last christmas. It's a bit large and there were clear video issues (about 30-45 seconds into DKC2 the video got weird, like a cable was loose or something). Controls felt fine, weight was fine, I found getting the cart in and out was a little tougher than it should have been.

They're fully accessible and removable/replaceable, but you need a key to get to them. If I can find a working key or figure a way to open this thing up, I'll definitely post pictures.

That's the thing with lots. There's times you can get a hell of a deal on a bunch of great games, but this auction was way over bid. Personally, I wouldn't have gone much more than $110. Why?
Rough going rate of the games that people actually want:

DK3 $20
Added up, it brings it to $110. Yea, there's other games on that listing too, but as a buyer, I expect to pay less than full going price if I were to part out each game.
Anything above $130 is a foolish bid on that auction.
Well, you can replace the maskrom (the chip that holds the game's rom) with a eprom or flashrom, allowing you to put whatever game you want on the cart. Of course, I've over simplified this.

Yeah, that definitely ended high. Especially since it looks like the most valuable game has label damage unless that's just light reflecting off of the crease or something.
Goodwill is still ok for other things though. I went on quite a thrift store drive on Saturday and found a couple Genesis games: Puggsy & Pitfall: the mayan adventure. I also found an Odyssey 2 cartridge called Alien Invaders-plus and and obscure computer/game system called the Mattel Aquarius with a cassette drive.
It's true they pretty much put all the SNES games they get online though. You can however sometimes find a SNES system in the shop and controllers.

You're probably thinking of the oddly named "Nintendo Power" cartridges. There was one for SNES and one for GB. I think there were one or two games that only came out on those cartridges.

Edit2: Yes, Super Famicom Wars was only released on the "Nintendo Power" service apparently. A shame because I love those games. Would be neat to have on the SNES but will probably cost a fortune.

Not "blank" cartridges, usually donor boards taken from other games. Usually they use really cheap stuff.
Basically, they use an EPROM burner to write the data from a rom to re-writable rom chips, and soldier those chips into the cart in place of the original ones. They then print and apply a new label and bam.
It gets a little more complicated when it comes to games that need special chips, but basically that's the gist of it.

The problem is it's just so hard to tell usually. They take group shots and maybe front shots of the valuable ones individually. But, I want a nice front shot and a top shot so I can really see the label.

You could actually get quite a lot of games for the SNES version of this, including games like SMK, SM Collection, Bomberman, etc.

Yeah those are NES only. That site was working on one for SNES though, don't know how far along they got.
I should mention that this board in particular is made for homebrew games.
The first game in the series was for the Famicom, and that one's readily available, and really good actually. It holds up well. There are also Game Boy Wars 1, 2 and 3. So you could get in on those. I recommend the NES/FC game, the GB ones aren't as good IMO. At least the first ones, GBW3 looks pretty good. But yeah now that you mention it it is kind of weird there aren't any repros for the SNES game since it is a hard one to come by and it's in a franchise that is now popular worldwide.

I got the loose games from a friend a few years ago. He got them cheap at a garage sale. The rest I bought back in the '90s, for the most part. My collection would probably be a lot larger if it wasn't for the fact that I don't like buying loose SNES games...though about half of my NES games are loose. Heh.
Any recommendations on stuff I should get? I was thinking about trying to pick up some imports like the Puyo Puyo and Sailor Moon games. Not sure what else besides some stuff that just goes for way too much for me to afford right now. Hah.

Heh I remember getting Home Alone 2 (at least I think it was 2...I just remember my friend complaining about jumping over irons? I dunno). I'm kinda surprised Home Improvement is actually worth something.

I used to have Home Improvement...but it got lost when I moved to Florida 11 years ago. Kinda strange that out of all of the games I owned at the time, that was the only one that went missing...someone in my family must have left it behind on purpose! I can't say I really blame them for that, though. Haha.

Oh...and I have the NES version of Home Alone 2. That game confuses me. I don't think I ever made it past the first level. I'm not sure if the SNES game is anything like it, though, as I never bothered to look it up.
I have Home Alone 2 on the SNES. I actually beat it once, because it was one of the games I got as a kid and I didn't have many others to play. So I played that lol. Haven't played it in years though. Another one I played a lot because of that is Bart's Nightmare. Never managed to beat that one though.
