SNK CEO steps down after heavily-marketed Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves seemingly muted launch

AOF3 is a pile of shit but it gave us Lenny Creston so it is forgiven.

God damn it beer
It has its moments but it is not polished as a whole. It is very fun to play Robert, Rody, Sinclair, or Wang and they are very well animated (though animations are more 3D styled) but you bring in Jin, Kasumi, or Wyler and the game becomes boring.

The takes in this thread are something else...smh

Nowadays fighters are the most accessible they've been. They are easy to play, hard to master (as they should be) but in terms of accessibility they are more accessible now than they ever have been. From extensive tutorials to fun sidegames or story modes. The casual player has never had more to choose from.

The people complaining about aditional systems to a genre that is like 40 years old are the equivalent of someone complaining that nowadays you have to learn more mechanics for Mario than just running and jumping like 40 years ago....like no shit... it's called evolving.
For real I've seen some terrible taked here such as "2d fighters are too simplistic and stupid" like what? They're one of the deepest and most difficult to learn genres of games.

One take I do agree with is the prevalence of "simple controls" and auto combos.. I can't stand this in a fighting game and I only started my fighting game journey during the ps4 era when auto combos and simplified controls became a thing. Even though a game has them, the last thing I want to do is use simple controls....I want to get good and learn to do the complicated stuff. This is what makes fighting games unique and rewarding. Not pressing the same button 4 times to do a combo or not having to do the dragon punch movement on the thumb stick!

Now AoF is interesting. From a gameplay standpoint, I think they're horrible. But AoF1's big ass sprites and bruises was something else. AoF2 had awesome characters like Eiji who is one of my fave SNK chars ever. But that gameplay with pressure sensitive light and heavy attacks.. lol. This game is near unplayable.

AoF3 I don't remember much of. I didn't own it, only tried it on emulator like 25 years ago. I fell asleep while playing it, after gasping at its 2D graphics which probably still hold up.

Never followed or played Neo geo fighting games back in the day or now aside from rarely dabbling with them.

But it is amazing how many fighting IPs they'd churn out like clockwork. And the games (even on archaic NG hardware) do have rock solid art style and animations.
