SNK Games and the 360 *sob*

So this morning I emailed SNK about 360 support, because I am dying for KOF 94: Rebout and SSV on Xbox Live, and don't want to break out my Xbox from the closet. Here is what they had to say:

Hello XXXX,

MS backwards compatibility is the $64,000 question. The 200 of the current 850 Xbox titles that work on 360 is more of a lucky 200 than a planned 200. MS can not pre-test or tell us how to make sure as games are developed that they will work on 360. Packaging can not say it either.

After games are released we will test on a retail unit and keep fingers crossed. My guess is no as none of our Xbox titles already released are on the list of 200.

It is not about SNK….Every manufacturer is in the same boat.

Enjoy your holidays…

I am sad now :(

What did you expect? The backwards compatibility list isn't entirely comprised of games that Microsoft specifically worked on, only a few of them have been dealt with individually which seemingly allows other games to work aswell.

You would be better off asking Microsoft if they have any specific plans to deal with the SNK games and where they are on the priority list.

That is basically the sentiment of every developer / publisher who made a game for the xbox over the last 5 years. Nice job alienating your non-first party devs MS.

they sound kinda pissed.
If what he says is true, they should be. But I doubt MS is closing the door to devs that want to and have inquired about helping in the process of making their games (or any other games for that matter) BC.

Also, XBLA is SNKs friend.

Does SNK plan to support the 360? I'd think Xbox Live Arcade would be calling out to them.

Xbox Live Arcade for all MVS titles would sell like hot cakes. But, I believe Battle Colosseum is headed to 360 soon.

If you're hardcore enough that you care about continuing to play the SNK games over Live, you're hardcore enough to leave your Xbox 1 hooked up to your TV.

Very True, This was my reply to SNK :)

Nooo. Thanks for the Answer. Time to break out my old xbox from the closet in two weeks.

And it still looks pretty much the same as every other game they've ever made right? I like SNK's fighters, but they've got to graphically move beyond the early to mid-ninties, how many generations of hardware have passed and yet their games look the same? It used to be impressive that they could squeeze so much out of their archaic hardware, but now that they're on the Atmoiswave, it's kind of sad. I don't think it's asking too much that they at least try to equal current generation fighters like the Guilty Gear games visually.

Even if SNK moved to XBLA, I don't think they'd be too happy about giving their games away for $5-10 instead of $40, when they still have to do the porting. Of course, I guess a $5 King of Fighters would sell eight times that of a $40 one...

No Battle Colosseum is high res just like Guilty Gear. King of Fighter XI is even better looking then GG imo. I think if that is your concern about SNK, you should be impressed when you see KOF XI it's a great step in the right direction. I think SNK finally realized that they have no more competition, GG has taken a break, and sadly Capcom gave up. So SNK is taking the opportunity to give it there all in graphics and game play so when and if capcom and sammy try to come back in they will have a tough time.

I gotta agree that the BC issue is indeed an amazing clusterfuck. It's really ironic that the 360 core pack doesn't look as stupid, now that one of the major *requirements* for having a HDD on the system is shaping up as a botched mess.

SNK's comment almost makes it sound as if MS doesn't have any serious strategy for making Xbox games run on 360 - more like, throw together an emulator, and if a game happens to halfway run on it, hack a driver together quickly to get it to PROBABLY not crash, even if it doesn't run right.

Ye gods, if Sony produces BC on the PS3 more "properly", they're going to have so much to shove in MS' face over the issue.

Haha, yeah like it'll be one of the $5 ones. If Zuma is $10, KOF will be probably double that.

That wasn't obvious when the compatibility list first appeared? It's not like somebody at MS said "Screw Splinter Cell and Riddick! We need to get Barbie Horse Adventures running!"

BTW, KoFXI and NGBC are both low-res sprites on high-res 3D backgrounds AFAIK. The only "true" high-res fighter they've done so far is KoF'94 Rebout and sadly it sucked ass.

Now, if the three new ones (mentioned + SS Tenkaichi) would be in high-res, they'd look amazing. Really nice art in those three.

I've played all the way through Jade Empire on my 360, and there is one problem that occurs in several areas. At the Pilgrim's Rest Inn, Scholar's Garden, the Market in the Imperial City, and in the Imperial Palace some textures fail to load. I'd exit and re-enter these places only to have the same problem occur. It's not a game ending problem, but it is noticable. Hopefully MS will fix this problem at some point, but yeah...given that their biggest games still have problems, I don't think they'll be giving a crap about games that still don't work.

I doubt any of the older SNK games are as large as that.

Depends on how far back you consider older SNK games. I just checked, and KOF98 for example, is around 88 MB. KOF2k2 is over 100. Then again SS 1-4 all clock in under 56 (or 64).
