Can't you just input the CD key into Steam and grab the download version, then basically throw the CDs away?

E EekTheKat Member Dec 10, 2004 #6 near as I can tell no. I *think* cd keys are separated by steam customers + retail customers. People have tried to get around it, but it's really a pain the ass compared to the pure steam version, especially if you want to play online. I haven't checked recently but a lot of retail customers were *really* pissed off by this.
