Am I going to be kicking myself for whoring myself out to Vivendi instead of Steam?

I don't like the idea of having to download gigs of data, especially when it's more expensive.

$50/hour, but no kissing on the lips and colors must be pre-separated
I've heard that this little sleeper title is a pretty good game. Yes, I think you'll be happy with your purchase...and you're going to have to deal with Steam either way you slice it.

Looking back, I should have bought the game via Steam.

The boxed version requires Steam authentication ON TOP of a CD check.

Can't you just input the CD key into Steam and grab the download version, then basically throw the CDs away?

near as I can tell no. I *think* cd keys are separated by steam customers + retail customers.

People have tried to get around it, but it's really a pain the ass compared to the pure steam version, especially if you want to play online.

I haven't checked recently but a lot of retail customers were *really* pissed off by this.
