So did anyone buy Samurai Warriors: Xtreme Legends?!

Hah, just noticed it has been out almost a month already! :D

One thing that bothered me about Samurai Warriors is the level 20 cap. But I just read this info about Samurai Warriors Xtreme Legends in the IGN review:

n Samurai Warriors the characters improved their stats as they got up to level 20 and then they were entombed in amber. This time around the stats can keep improving and become truly terrifying. The same approach has been taken with the weapon system as well. There are now sixth level weapons and the weapons themselves can be improved by paying a blacksmith or purchasing other items. There are also nine new skills and six new skill items to play around with that help to flesh out the rest of the gameplay.

Now, I couldn't tell if they meant for the new characters are ALL the characters. Can I hot swap my SW disc into Xtreme Legends and then beef my characters up past level 20 in the story mode? That would be sweet! If so I'm going to pick it up.

Also, Dynaty Warriors buffs, I skipped out on Empires 'cause of the hot release year but now am thinking about getting it! How did you like it? Oh and I still need to get Kingdom Under Fire! BeU get!

This is one of the few games that shipped totally under my radar. I picked it up about 2 weeks ago, however. I've yet to unwrap it. :o

:lol Why am I not surprised?! :lol

Damn I've gone to a couple Samurai Warriors XL boards and everyone seems to love the improvements added. Usually these people on the official boards rip the game apart! :lol

*hangs head in shame*

Tell me about it. I've played DW4 and SW, but not DW4 XL, DW4 Empires, or SW XL.

But I've honestly meant to! I really have! But November was just f-cking nuts with new games. Most of which I haven't touched yet. The DW/SW games are FAR down the list right now.

Ok I just picked this up today. Not much playtime put into it but I like what I've seen so far. A new stage, four new characters, some rebalancing with the AI, and new items and more frequent drops. Not to mention the requisite new weapon added to XL gams (6th weapon!).

The only new character I used so far is Ina. She uses a bow to attack. With the bow she can do a combination of melee and ranged attacks which is sweet. She smack them up close with the bow a couple times and then finish enemies off with a barrage of arrows. Her charge attack allows her to fire an array of arrows into the sky and rain down upon the enemies below. And her masou attack shoots pulsating energy wave type attacks out of her bow. I love the combination of melee and range attacks added together and she will more than likely be my favorite new character. The main reason I got XL was to increase character stats. From what I've read you should be able to go above and beyond the character limits from SW, but it may take me awhile to test this out. When I didn't have my own PS2, I had my SW save file on my buddies PS2 memory card. He has moved since so I can't get the data without a couple hour drive. I have to start over from scratch with my characters now. But that is OK I don't mind as long as I can max out stats! In a way I kind of view Samurai Warriors as an unfinished game but the XL add on helps flesh out the title and gets rid of restrictions which shouldn't have been there in the first place. I'll try to get more in depth as I get some more time to play it.

I'm broke off my ass. Did they give Okuni (^_^) new costumes?

There is a special options menu where you can buy some bonus stuff now with points you earn during the game. There is an option for alternate costumes so maybe a new one is in there?

I picked up Samurai Warriors today for my Xbox half price, great buy been playing the game Co-Op over a few beers with a mate and having a blast, the ninja that my friend is playing as seems to suck he uses the blade on a rope that is kind of weak.

What’s the deal with Extreme legends?

Are the extras in the Xbox version off the bat?

Xtreme Legends is an expansion pack to Samurai Warriors. Xbox always gets the main games in the Koei beat 'em up series (Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors), but they never sell well enough on Xbox to warrant offering the expansion as well. Personally, I've always thought Koei should wait for the expansion pack to be out on PS2, and then port the original game and expansion together in one bundle on Xbox.

Samurai Warriors Xtreme Legends has four new characters added to the game, plus a ton of balancing fixes.

Xbox version of Samurai Warriors should be the same as the PS2 original version but with DD sound added in. None of the expansion pack stuff made it in. But Samurai Warriors on its own is a cool game, especially if you found it at a reduced price. Two player co-op is fantastic.

I played it on the PS2, It's pretty much like DW, just that the general mood of the game is a tad darker. I also looks a bit better. The ninja is interesting (not in XL), but kinda useless or not very effective. The best guy is the one who swings his stick around over the head. You can practically walk through enemies like through butter.

It's interesting that all DW/SW games are practically the same thing with minor improvements, and totally repetetive, but i can still play them for hours and hours in coop.

That sucks, Xtreme Legends isn’t due out In Australia until late February anyway. I was a huge Dynasty Warriors 2 fan so I am loving this game.

I'm close to buying Dynasty Warriors 4 Empires, but we are so close to the release of Dynasty Warriors 5 (March) that I may hold off. Samurai Warriors XL is keeping me pretty busy. I hope Dynasty Warriors 5 incorporates some of the strategical additions added to DW4 Empires.

Don't they do Kessen too? That looks like it's gotten a totally new look.

Yeah. Kessen 3 is also due out in March. Koei will probably end up releasing the two (DW5 and Kessen 3) within a week of each other. :lol I wish I could find some more info on Kessen 3. I can't find much at all. When these sites get back from their vacation next week I hope they give us some more Kessen 3 info.

I asked for Kessen 3 impressions in a sales thread last week, but no one has really posted much yet. I think DCharlie said his girlfriend was playing it.

TELL HER TO POST. :D

I want to get it bad, but I haven't unlocked everybody in regular Samurai Warriors. I guess I don't have to if I get this disc, but I'd like the satisfaction of doing it on my own.

The neat thing about the XL expansions, however (at least for the Dynasty Warriors versions) is that the upgrades, tweaks, additions, and new weapons/items all apply back to the regular version of the game again.

So you're not just playing the same game as before, with fixes and new content, with only the 4 new characters added by the expansion disc, but you can also play the upgraded game with the original characters as well!

Pop in Samurai Warriors XL disc.

Choose Import Data option.

Pop out SWXL disc

Pop in SW disc

Game loads data

Pop back in SWXL disc

Go to story mode and choose from all 19 characters to play from. :D

If XL really removes the LV 20 stat lock, I'd be willing to pick it up for that alone. The new skills and stuff would be gravy. Any word on that yet, Mrbob?
