I've been wondering, cause IGN lets you do it. But here, you can't edit a thread title and have the change be visible on the boards, a mod has to do it for you. Why's that?

Huh? Seriously? What's the story behind it? I really hate the omission of the delete option. I like to delete my post if someone posts the same response a few seconds/minute before me and I don't see it until I submit my reply (which isn't uncommon on these forums at all).

He deleted the bathtub thread. After that delete was taken away.

Unless they changed it, I'm pretty sure you can change the thread title if you do it quick enough. After 5 minutes or so, you can't do it anymore.
