... only the first two episodes, though.

Pros:

- Virtually limitless roster of superheroes!
- Bruce Timm style Green Arrow kicks ass.
- Wonder Woman's invisible jet!
- Adapting classic comic book stories.

Cons:

- Using John Stewart as the token black guy. Goofy haircut/goatee and all. Give me Hal Jordan!
- Goofy ass opening credits, and music.
- Supergirl is already getting on my nerves.

All in all, seems look an impressive start!

Explain to me why he is a token. Because he's black and you feel all black characters are tokens? He's been a Lantern since the 70s. He's currently the Lantern in the comics why wouldn't he be in the Tv show?

No, because there is only one black character amongst the "big seven." If the ethnicities of the various heroes were more balanced, he would not be regarded as a "token black character."

Since, we knew a black Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman would of went over real well.

The simple fact of the matter is people expect certain characters in the Justice League, and I guess Green Lantern is the most flexible. I mean J'onnz couldn't cut it, and wel Flash is in a costume.. full body most of the time.

There are no Asian character, main cast, cameo and peripheral. No latino either. Should we add some token characters of those ethnic background too? God, I hate political correctness in this case.

I'm no comic book buff, but even I understand they include the most popular characters and those that can help a story. That was true with the original JL and this carries on with JLU. They just happen to be white for the most part. Live with it.

If it makes you feel any better, there are more black voice actors in JLU than their cartoon alter-egos suggest. :p

True, people DO expect Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman to be caucasian. However, when I see Green Lantern (as do most Lantern, and many JLA fans), they see Hal Jordan -- a caucasian.

If you're going to do a Green Lantern, do him right. The JLU John Stewart doesn't even resemble the John Stewart from the comics. Scrap the shaved head, and the goofy-looking goatee. Maybe it's just me, but JLU's Green Lantern just screams, "hey, I'm black!" That's a "token black character" if I've ever seen one.

Regarding the recent episode... what's the story behind The Question and Powergirl? That is the official story in the current DC continuum?

IMHO Jon Stewart's personality works in better with the animated version of the league.

I think they mentioned flash + Kyle Rayner would be too much alike in terms of personality. Having a mliitary guy play off of the comic works a lot better in terms of writing.

Stewart never looked that way in regular JL. After his er, situation in Starcrossed, I guess he decided to change his look.

I can't get into JL like I could Batman, Superman and BB.

GL's cool though. How come whenever there's a black character it's an issue just because he IS black. Whenever there's an action movie/show with black main characters it's always labeled either a "black" show/movie, or some type of offensive stereotype.

Which is why I like GL. He's an actual black character(with a unique look). He's not some extreme stereotype. Black characters are usually either stupid/mute muscle/comic-relief, or "white" characters with a brown shade. Or the alternative where we're just not in anything at all. Which is Blade is another series I love, he's most def. black but he doesn't come off as a cartoony insult.

The way I see it (in America at least) there are different unique cultures"races"(I hate that word) and in each there are many different personalities. It just seems like in entertainment only white characters can have different depth/personalities/motivation. Deviate from that at all and they're simply one-note "black" or "asian" or whatever character-types. The day a movie/game/show can have different ethnicities interacting as real people without being representative as a whole group my head will probably explode.

Sorry about the above. It's just something I notice alot and it probably doesn't even make sense.

Maybe he looks black because he's BLACK? Damn, I figured a Token black character would be saying "yo yo" "in the HOUSE" and basically, be Static Shock.

JLU has its ups and downs for me, I really didn't like the first episode and thought it was way too rushed. But there are episodes that make good use of the limited time, like the episodes where Superman is attacked in his fortress of solitude by Mongul and in the episode with the Justice "Kids" versus Mordred.

That's why they're not using the Kyle Rayner Green Lantern for Justice League, they already had the Flash so another wise cracking hero would have been too much. And because they're using the Superman continuity (and some of the old Batman:TAS and WB Batman) for JL they aren't going to use Hal Jordan because he's still a test pilot in the Air Force. Another reason i heard is that Hal Jordan GL requires a lot more story to set his character up (a series of his own?) because he has a lot more history than both Stewart and Rayner. It was easier for the Superman writers to choose Rayner because he was still relatively new back when they made him GL of Earth on Superman:TAS.

I believe that Kyle Rayner will show up later this season in a GL corps episode.

The hilarious (though pathetic) reaction to GTA SA's lead character and cast was just further proof that some things will never change.

I'm not really up on the GTA games what happened? I assume the it's a black setting right? I could've sworn I saw my cousin playing as a lot of different characters including a black guy. Plus I know I've heard some rap(Royce 59 baby!) Was it a big change or something?

Yeah, the new GTA game is sub-titled San Andreas, and is based primarily on early 90's LA (though they have towns based on Vegas and San Fran as well). So it's got that whole Boyz N' Tha Hood vibe going. And the lead character is black, which apparantely isn't good enough for some of the cock strokes on this and other gaming board populaces, so they went into meltdown. Fucking brown shirts.

I am beginning to think expanding the lineup has made this show sucked hard despite the comedic moments here and there.

sometimes she'll be too wounded or tired to fly all of the way back on her power alone, or sometimes she needs to transport others, etc etc.

Did I just see the Composite Superman?! With a female voice? Who was that (the split Batman/Superman character)???

I'm tired of Hawk & Dove and tonight's pansy and the other dull characters taking the spotlight. I'd have rather seen the main fight! This show needs to go back to being an hour long!!

I do love see Elongated Man thought, I used to love reading his short adventures in the back couple pages of 70's Superman comics.

Was apparently just an effect of one of the supervillain's powers. As he mentioned at the end of the episode, when the villain was defeated, the effect wore off.

I couldn't stop thinking of Fry whenever Booster Gold's little robot thing spoke.

sounded like wonder woman's voice... and was i the only one who thought that booster gold would somehow
use the black hole to save the day from the 'main' villain

intangibles, motherfucker
I thought the whole green lantern confusion was pretty funny.
Little Boy: Thanks green lantern!
Booster Gold: Im not green lantern! If i was green lantern my costume would be green!

The Question is a relatively minor character in the DC universe that I honestly would love to see gain some popularity. His biggest claim to fame is probably that he was the inspiration for Rorschach in Alan Moore's Watchmen. He started off as a Steve Ditko creation in the 60's and appeared in issues of the Blue Beetle for Charlton Comics. In the early 80's, DC bought the rights to the Charlton heroes. Alan Moore was originally going to use these characters in Watchmen, but ended up using knockoff characters because what he intended might have screwed with DC's potential to use some of them in future comics. The Question came back in the late 80's with a three year run written by Dennis O'Neal. In it, the character was changed from a right-wing nutjob who just went around beating criminals up (at least that's my understanding; I never read the Charlton run), to using more philosophy and disciplined martial arts. His real name is Charles Victor Szasz, but he goes by Vic Sage. His day job is as a TV news reporter for KBEL in Hub City, where he often gets scolded for not pulling punches in reporting the truth. As his name would imply, curiosity is his main motivation. The Question alter-ego is simply used to do things that Vic Sage can't, namely breaking the law in following up leads on this issue's villain.

From this episode, you might have guessed that he has no super powers. Basically, his abilities are martial arts skills, as he was trained by Richard Dragon. Also, the gas pellets you saw were developed by Aristotle Rodor, basically his assistant, and cause the plastic mask he wears to bond to his face. Also, it can change the color of his clothing and hair. And that's pretty much all he has in the way of abilities.

He hasn't been seen much since the O'Neal run, although he does appear from time to time. He was in The Dark Knight Strikes Again, for one. He was also in the Batman/Huntress story Cry for Blood. Other than that, he appeared very sporadically. Although I do believe he is getting a six issue mini-series starting in November.

I don't get why Wonder Woman had an invisible jet? I thought she could fly?

There was supposed to be a direct to video Justice League movie in which the invisible jet was introduced and explained. For whatever reason, WB animation put a halt to the project right before it was about to go into production.

The invisible jets, hahahaha, that brings back memories of the early comics and Super Friends. I remember some episodes where Wonder Woman transported all the super friends(including superman) with her plane to some place, what was funny is that while the plane is invisible, the passengers were not!

What is the story of Elongated Man and/or Plastic Man?

Also I thought it was amusing that Booster Gold's little robot thingy was voiced by the same guy who does Fry on Futurama.

Steve, good news!

There's a Question limited series kicking off in November by Rick Veitch and Tommy Lee Edwards. (Edit: Oops, notice you already mentioned this in your post. Either way, consider this preview art)
