So yeah, I applied for Illustration and Design for my CEGEP (a Quebec-only institution which you attend to after High-School and before University). The two requirements for the application is a portfolio with various works (20-25) and a drawing test. This year, there were 84 students that applied of which 20 would get refused, as I was told.
My drawing skills are good-to-ok, I told myself I'd become better after this 3-year program, and I worked pretty hard on my portfolio, using various techniques, etc. I thought I was a shoe in because I couldn't be in the last 20 guys. I was also interested in the program because it has good emphasis on digital art and even 3D modeling, which is in my field of interest.
Boy was I wrong. Appearantly, this would be the best arts program given in the whole of the province and as I found out today, just about everyone there was already a DaVinci. The timed drawing test went ok, could have been better for me but it was representative of my skills to some degree, which seemed clearly lacking compared to all the others'. Some people seemed to come from different parts of the world just to attend this program and about half of them looked over their 20s and have been already studying art for years. While I'm finishing high-school this year and have had limited experience with art even though I worked hard on my portfolio and all that.
I went into this thinking I'd learn to draw better, I didn't know I had to already be near flawless to just get accepted to an arts program in my local CEGEP. I might not get picked which leaves me with my second choice...computer science
