So I just spilled half a can on beer on my gaming pc

The pc is gaming rig I built in 2016 (6600K, GTX1070) and I keep it next to my sofa.

I tend to use it as a table, and sometimes put a drink on it, stupid stupid thing I know.

So my hand hit the beer can that was on the pc and beer started flowing all over it. I immediately shut it down and started wiping the beer off.

No beer luckily got inside, but the case's ports got soaked a bit. I dried it up and started it after a while. The damage seems minimal so far. Two of the front usb-ports are a bit unstable. Both work, but if I remove the usb-keyboard, it won't be recognized if I put it back on. Windows restart fixes the problem. Realtek audio manager gave few "audio device plugged/unplugged" -messages, even when I don't have anything connected. But my headphones did work.

So these small issues aren't effecting me much and they might fix due time, or get worse. Oh, and there is still half a can beer left!

Don't do like I did GAF, and have you (nearly) wrecked anything due to your own stupidity/clumsiness?

Edit. Damn the title should be can of beer

I use mine as a table sometimes. This thread is concerning but I will probably continue to do so

I accidentally knocked a cup of ice tea off my work desk and onto my work computer's tower about 2 months ago. It scared me so much I literally fell back out of my chair and scrambled to try to get up. The top of the tower has an open grate on the top where the fan is...the tea landed right NEXT to that grate, a few inches to the right and I'm sure it would've fried the whole computer, but it only got on the top and spilled down the side.

I shouldn't be alive.

i've ended a relationship over someone threatening to pour liquid into my PC so no, can't say that i have ever put my PC in harm's way like that

i keep my drinks either on the floor next to my chair or on the edge of the table where my mousepad is

I spilled water directly on my PC all over the CPU whilst I was in VR myself. When I took off the heatsink, there was even beads of water on the heatspreader of the cpu. Cleaned all the mineral spots left by the water all over the board with alcohol and came out fine.

Isopropyl of high purity is your best friend in these types of situations.

What time is it where you live? Why do you hate tables?

Beer o'clock. I live in a very small appartment, so I don't really have any room for table. There is a counter seperating my living room part from my kitchen, but it's annoying to turn around to crab anything from there.

your PC can't even get buzzed off of half a can. you better give it some more before it gets pissed off

I spilled the best part of a pint of milk all over my old MacBook Pro. Incredibly it continued to work normally, but the experience scared the shit out of me so I'm a lot more careful these days.

i spilled lean on my keyboard/mouse/headset/monitor. everything was sticky. after cleaning it everything was working. im more careful now.

It's hard for me to understand people that spill shit on their computers or break controllers in a fit of rage. Or stack cds on the table face down.

Doesn't really seem fatal honestly. Jut clean what you can with a slightly damp cloth, then alcohol wipe it for quick drying. If you have some canned air blast out the ports. Can't imagine this doing majorly permanent damage.

I once spilled beer inside my PC because I had the side door open for ventilation reasons. It hit my GFX card, but I managed to start it after like 10 or 20 tries. After that I kept it powered on until I got my new mobo and gfx card in the mail. I later got a new tower with better airflow.

Yeah I blasted the ports with canned air. Rubbing alcohol I don't have, so I just used normal cleaning stuff so that the case won't stay sticky.

Spilt a glass of water on a three thousand dollar laptop. Wasn't able to get it working again

Haven't bought one that expensive since

I once spilled water on my desk and a bit of it got into the usb ports (populated by a bt dongle). Everything seemed fine and I went to bed after a about 15 minutes.
When I woke up during the night I was greeted by the funny smell of fried electronics and heated up/melting plastics.
There seemed to have been enough water standing in the usb port to short something out for a few hours (ports still receive power if PC is off). Oh, and the motherboard was dead.

So I suppose at least clean it and let it dry completely.

Sorry. Can't comprehend using desktop as a table for liquids.
I don't allow anything liquid in my corner and put drinks on other side of table. Can't risk throwing a lot of money away.

Dismantle it a throw it in a rice for three days. Then hope no current was present in not many parts.

Ed: read your post now.. Not many things to do then.
