OMG! You're story spooked me a bit, here's why:

Last tuesday I suddenly got a pain in my left knee, only when I use it to get up the stairs or get out of a crouching position. So I thought that was kind of a coincidence with your story, but then you mention the rash and guess what I have since this afternoon? A reddish rash on my forearms!!!

Now...I think the rash is from sitting in the sun too long today after the long winter we went through here and I just hit my knee and forgot about it. Because I probably wouldn't have been in such a good shape now if I had meningitis....right?

I had it as a baby too... The only lingering effects to my knowledge is that now whenever I get any type of fever, it is higher than normal... It is not uncommon for me when sick to run a fever around 102 or higher. No low grade fevers for me! :)

good to hear that you're ok. i've had three catheters in the last few years, and while they don't hurt during insertion, they are VERY uncomfortable and always a damn problem. of course, as you said, all that pales in comparison when the bitch is actually pulled out. i just clutch the sidebars, bite my lip, and hold my breath -- then RIP -- ONE MOTION!

i tell you what, though. after a few days of having that catheter in your pee-pee, when it's finally removed your first masturbatory sessions yields great results... :lol

Scary story. I'm glad you're ok.

We (most of us) in Holland are facinated against Meningitis, including me. It was for type C.

Freestyler, thanks for sharing that story. I'm glad that you've made a almost complete recovery. Do you know if your hearing loss from your right ear is permanent?

And does NZ have a public health care system? I can imagine this costing a boatload if you were in the US with no medical coverage.

Not sure about the hearing yet, I'm gonna see if it gets any better and then get my ears tested if it doesn't. It's weird, I feel like I'm yelling when I'm talking but everyone is saying I'm talking really quietly.

NZ has a pretty solid public health care system. The hospital stay didn't cost me a cent. Guess that's what my taxes are for :D

Is there any way of preventing it? And the injections against B take like, 5 months until they actually start working, don't they? This shit is insane.

The vaccination is pretty good against type B, but it only covers type B which is only 75% of cases. You have to get three injections, I think they're a month apart each.

Glad you pulled out ok, now you can brag to your future girlfriends that you beat meningitis. Probably that'll just freak them out but atleast you'll score the smart ones. :p

What country was that, btw? :( And does anyone know what meningitis is called in swedish? (Though I should probably be more afriad of legionair decease that has broken out in town)

Or boyfriends :)

Um, country is New Zealand. I'd imagine that diseases are called the same the world over since they're not exactly typical English, but I might be totally wrong there. The technical word for what I had is something like Nereissas Meningitidis or something. It almost sounds like a Final Fantasy character.

...this is only rampant in NZ, right?

Fuck I'm going to be so paranoid now. :(

Another kiwi? We're comin out of the woodwork!

I'm pretty sure the rates are usually similar internationally, but we seem to be going through a bad phase of type B in NZ at the moment. There's a lot of media hype surrounding it all (rightfully so though, I guess) so it makes it seem like you'll get it just by going to the movies or somethin.

Wow. Thanks for sharing that. I almost started crying when reading your story heh. Usually I'm not an emotional guy but stories like these really get to me.

Really glad you made it trough. Thank *insert deity of choice* that me and my family never had to go through something like that.

Scary story! Glad you're ok though...that sounds like a horrible experience

Just reading that has put my life into perspective. I've gone through tough times but that was nothing compared to what happened to you
