Wow. One of the few movies that seriously kept me guessing until the end, and one of the greastest thrillers I've ever seen. If you've not seen it, go find it. Now.
It had serious plot holes and that rape shooting was SO not needed, but it was worth watching and mildly disturbing. Haven't seen it in years, may never see it again.
Perfect Blue was good, but Satoshi Kon's later efforts were amazing. If anything, you need to track down Millennium Actress and Tokyo Godfathers. Also get Paranoia Agent series if you're interested in a bizarre detective story :lol
I thought it was a very interesting mind fuck of a movie.
And the part where the guy gets the ice pick or whatever it was stuck right in his eye as he opens the door. Totally unexpected. Then the delayed reaction and his response when it's pulled out. Yikes.
I was just thinking that I should watch this film again. The only time I've seen it was with a female friend, who got so freaked out by the aforementioned "rape" sequence that we ended up fast-forwarding through several sections of the movie.

Well, I think the whole simulated rape scene was meant to really drive home the fact of how much the entertainment scene she was in owned her. And I'm sure you noticed her character really changed after that scene. This is adult anime, it's rarely known to pull any punches - it's shocking qualities are part of the appeal...
Tokyo Goodfathers is great IMHO It deals with some harsh realities for its main characters but it does have a number of humorous moments and the ending is uplifting (a good movie to watch esp. around Christmas time IMHO). The movie if I'm not mistaken uses fate in the form of numerous incredible coincidences throughout the story. Be sure to watch it if you get the opportunity as it shouldn't dissapoint esp. if you are a fan of Satoshi Kon's other work (keep in mind it's tone is not quite as serious as his other work but it's not carefree or silly by any means)
